Storage policy and Plans head to head

Hi,

We are on 11.32, in the command center plan while creating the RPO(schedule) it does not show option for synthetic full backup.

As a workaround we created using commcell console.

We are going to deploy new environment with 11.36.I beleive in the deployments from 11.34 the commcell console is locked(unless we have auth code).

In such a case how do we create a synthetic full in command center Plans(I know there will be automatic synthetic full which is hidden, but we need to define synthetic full manually) ?

One more query in  commcell console since schedule policy and storage policy are different, we can customize the subclients with in storage policy with different schedules.

But in commandcenter the plan is binded with RPO.This means the subclients in plan cannot be customized with having different schedules.Doesn’t it a limitation of Command center plan?

I hope the questions are clear.

Hi @AbdulIkram,

Regarding your question of configuration equivalent of having a single storage policy assigned to multiple subclients and customizing the scheduling differently, there are a couple of ways to do this.

  1. Create derived plans from the original server plan as base plan, inherit backup destinations and override RPO. This way they use same storage but have different schedules. This is available in 11.32. Please see Creating Plans from a Base Plan
  2. In 11.36, we have the way to create server plans with only storage and no schedules. Schedules can be managed via schedule policies. Command center supports Data protection schedule policy. Please see Data Protection Schedule Policies in Command Center.

For synthetic full, we do recommend using the automatically created synthetic full schedule from server plan, which optimally handles load in the Commserver. But the additional setting above should help for highly customized business requirements.

Hi @AbdulIkram ,

please add the additional setting : showSynthFullSchedulesInServerPlan to enable synfull frequencies in the CommandCenter

This will show the autocreated synfull within a plan as well as the option to create / modify your own.

Hi @Gokul Pattabiraman,

If you add the additional setting, you are able to remove all backup frequencies (aka schedules) from the base plan.

This allows you to assign the plan to clients, that are backed up using any external scheduler or commandline to initiate a backup.

adding derived plans to the base plan, allows you to attach different backup frequencies to address the same storage pool as defined in the base plan.

This makes the Base Plan the equivalent to the Storage Policy and the derived Plan the equivalent to the Schedule Policies.

btw. defining content definition in a plan, creates a subclient policy. If you use this during a migration from schedules to plans, this will override the current subclient settings if you assign the clients to this plan.
