VSA File Indexing - Command Center - Can I continue to use Storage Policies vs Plans

I’d like to use VSA based File Indexing for a single Windows VM file server

There used to be a tick box option in the JAVA Console / Subclient setup - But that seems to have disappeared.

The Option now is to

-Use VM Groups in Command Center easy to do)

-But I’m then guided to use ‘Plans’

Is there anyway I can bypass this and use my existing Storage Polices

I’m happy to use a plan if needed (as I only want VSA file indexing for a single VM - so this would be ‘standalone / isolated plan - specific to a single VM)

Hello YYZ,

For File Indexing, it is recommended to configure everything in Command Center going forward.

Here is the main configuration information

https://documentation.commvault.com/2024/essential/file_indexing_version_2.html

We also have an option to convert existing storage policies to plans:

https://documentation.commvault.com/2024/essential/converting_commcell_console_storage_policies_to_command_center_server_plans_or_laptop_plans.html

Finally, you can enable the option for just one VM:

https://documentation.commvault.com/2024/essential/enabling_file_indexing_for_virtual_machines_at_vm_level.html

Please let us know if there are any further questions.

Hi Shawn

Thanks for the quick reply.

I’ve put a single File Server VM in a plan to perform the VSA File Indexing.

I’m not keen on converting the existing storage policies (the granularity of control in SP’s vs Plans is something I’ve not been able to give up yet 😐
