Customer has setup Private Metric server for having reports beyond the Storage policy retention.  He is running the job summary report which to connect to commserve (CommserveDB), he got this updated to Metric server and CVCloud DB, however the jobs reported as still the same as before. (no data beyond SP retention).

Customer Ask:  backup history data beyond SP retention till last one year.

i have found the below community posts relating to the issue but not addressing it directly.

https://documentation.commvault.com/11.24/expert/aging_job_history_data.html

Also found the below link for retention settings for metric server, however unable to find a way to add the job summary report here

Configuring Retention Settings for Metrics Reports Data (commvault.com)

Any information regarding the ask is appreciated.

Hi @Zubair Ahmed Sharief,

Good Day!

In case, "Days to keep the successful backup job histories" is set to the default of 7 days, You can now only view jobs with [Number of retention days + 7 days]. You won't be able to see the job history after that period

We have a "Media Management Configuration: Data Aging" parameter to retain the successful backup job history beyond SP retention.
The default value is 7 days. [retention days + 7 days]

Days to keep the successful backup job histories

Definition: Specifies the number of days to retain successfully completed backup job history data after it is pruned.

Default Value: 7

Range: 0 to 5000

Usage: Retaining job history for longer or shorter periods may be required for compliance, auditing, or other reasons. Successful backup job history is retained for as long as the data is restorable plus the number of days specified here. Increasing this number might be prudent if you are doing trend analysis on information contained within the backup job histories.

From <https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/expert/media_management_configuration_data_aging.html>

For example:

If the SP retention period is 30 days and you need to view jobs for the past year.

You may need to set the parameter value to 335 days (30 recoverable days + 335 specified days).

================

Alternatively for now, you can restore the oldest available DR backup to a test machine [isolated from the network] and get the details you need.

Hello @Nutan Pawar G
Do these settings help for other job status such as “committed, completed with errors and failed “?

Also is there a way to do this on metric server instead of commserve, customer want to make use of Metric server and not bloat the Commserve Database

Hi @Zubair Ahmed Sharief ,

On the same configuration window there is an option to retain failed jobs, Hence kindly use that retain failed and completed with error job meta data.

Metrics server will be acting as reporting server and whatever retention that we configure on the respective Commserve will be presented on the metrics reports.

Hello @Pradeep @Nutan Pawar G
I have checked with customer; he does not want any fix which is focused on Commserve since it would bloat the CSDB.
He mentioned about “Client backup history” report which connects to the CVCLoud DB on the metric, he is now looking for a way to retain it for 1 year.

Hi @Zubair Ahmed Sharief ,

As informed in the past if the data is not retained on the local CS then it will not be shown on the metrics as well. Because the DM2 or CVcloud DB on metrics server will get information from the local commserve.

Can we know the metrics report you are looking forward to get data for longer duration.

Customer deployed “Client history report” from store which served their requirement
