Im planning on upgrading our commvault environment from 11.32.x to the 11.40.x (LT support) in the very near future.

We currently are on a windows server 2019 Datacenter.  Will commvault 11.40.x run on win server 2019?

We are also using Ms SQL server 2016 on our current 11.32.x.  Does 11.40.x support this or does that need to be upgraded as well using the commvault 11.40.x installer.  Please advise.

Any input or links would be appriciated

Hello @bc1410

Commvault 11.40.x is fully supported on Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Datacenter. You can run all core components (CommServe, MediaAgent, clients, etc.) on Windows Server 2019.

Supported OS: Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Editions (including Datacenter)

System Requirements for Windows File Servers

CommServe Server: System Requirements (Windows)

Commvault 11.40.x does not support SQL Server 2016 for the CommServe database.

→ Supported SQL Versions for CommServe: Microsoft SQL Server 2022 Standard Edition is require for new installations and upgrades.

→ During the upgrade to 11.40.x, the installer will automatically upgrade your CommServe SQL instance to SQL Server 2022 Standard Edition if you are running SQL Server 2016 (Standard/Express).

→ If your CommServe is currently using SQL Server 2016, you must allow the Commvault 11.40.x installer to upgrade SQL to 2022 Standard Edition as part of the upgrade process.

Hope this helps

@Kalaivanan Thanks for the Reply and sorry for the late reply back

From your POST:

→ If your CommServe is currently using SQL Server 2016, you must allow the Commvault 11.40.x installer to upgrade SQL to 2022 Standard Edition as part of the upgrade process.

https://documentation.commvault.com/11.40/software/upgrading_microsoft_sql_server_editions_on_commserve_computer.html

If Im reading this correctly -  basically have to uninstall everything to get the new version of MS SQL installed via the 11.40.x installer?  Then during the install select option “Exisiting Database” ?

Thanks

A fresh install is going to install SQL Server 2022.
An upgrade will upgrade SQL Server 2016 to 2022.

Note: If you’re going to upgrade, make sure your SQL Server 2016 is on SP3 or higher. Earlier SP levels will not upgrade to 2022.
