Hi guys,

I have a question,

When we have 2 tape libraries at 2 different sites but each site has the same barcode, is that possible?

Thanks

Are these two sites have their own CommServer (CS) or they use a common CS?

If they are separate CS then its ok to have the same barcode. If they are common then there will be barcode conflict.

Can you elaborate what is the problem you are facing due to same barcode in different sites?

Hi @Satya Narayan Mohanty thanks for the your answer

Yes the two site with 1 CS

for the problem is Some of the barcodes on site 1 crossed over to site 2, and the cartridges on site 1 all had a duplicate barcode icon appear. Note: site 1 is first configured

@John Giblin , @Nikhil Gupta  - could you help?

Hello Alvian,

Do the libraries at both sites actually have barcodes that are the same, or do you think this is a display error?

If there are tapes with the same barcodes at both sites, then these tapes will not be usable.   The newer ones should be exported, have their barcodes replaced, and then be re-imported.

If these tapes already have valid data on them, then the update barcode operation should be run through the GUI first before physically updating the barcodes on the tape, to match what the new barcodes will be.

Update Media Barcodes - Overview (commvault.com)

After the newer tapes are exported the original ones in the first library will still be shown with the duplicate status.   The first library will need to be fully reset through the GUI to revert their status back to normal.

Thanks,

John

Alvian,

Question:  At site 1, is the original library Offline?   If so, it may be possible when tapes were removed and moved to site 2, the original tape library was able unable to update it’s inventory so it may be reflecting tapes that were in lib slots when last Online. (hope this makes sense).
