Is it possible to have aux copies configured between different CommCell entities?
Same company but different business units in different buildings requiring offsite backup copies but is trying to make use of the infrastructure of the other already existing in their environment.
This is probably possible when installing a second instance on the existing MA but will require separate disk libraries entities at that site.

You started to answer it yourself. Different CommCells can’t Aux Copy to each other, though you could just install another MA instance on the infrastructure/server and go that route. Just be aware that managing space usage will be a bit tough since the left hand won’t know what the right hand is doing and will show a big gap between total-used space=free space (since the other instance will be using the drives as well), though of course this depends on the library/config etc.
