Hi,

we installed a new dedupe appliance as a new library. we are now configure a new SP with no compression and no encryption (commvault dedupe in on).

we need to replicate the data using aux copy to the DR site with a straight disk library (JBOD).

my question - if we backup with no compression ‘ will aux copy also transfers uncompressed data to the DR site? because in this case , we’ll be run out of capacity in the DR library.

thanks.

@Eyal , can you clarify if your appliance is doing the dedupe or CV?

Either way, when you run an Aux copy, the jobs will be rehydrated if Dedupe is turned off.

commvault is doing the dedupe but send uncompressed data to the appliance.

will aux copy transfer now more data on the line because its not compressed?

if yes , we will have capacity issue on the DR library.

Potentially, yes.  You will see a size difference between copies.

Note that the Aux copies will never truly match due to how streams dedupe (concurrent streams can’t dedupe against each other).

If you’re using Commvault deduplication, the data is being compressed.  We compress the data as part of the deduplication process.

The JBOD on the DR site is NOT using Commvault deduplication?  If not, yes, it’s likely going to require a lot more space than the primary.  Is there a reason you would not be using Commvault deduplication with this DR disk library?

Thanks,
Scott
