HDFS / Hadoop as a disk library?

Forum|alt.badge.img+6

I have a customer who has excess Hadoop capacity that they would like to use for a long term storage target. I saw the below link on BOL that caught my attention as a possible solution, but I think this is just using commvault to orchestrate movement of data already in Hadoop to cold tiers within Hadoop, is that right? They would like to setup Hadoop to be a disk library for capturing that long term data, can we do that?

Hello @Matt Jaquillard

Thanks for the question, the link you share is for protecting Hadoop. It cannot be used as a storage target for backups. This feature will work similar to the archiver by moving data around in the Hadoop storage after it is X days old. I dont think this is the use case you want tho.

Kind regards
