DDB verification job performance - Verification of Existing Jobs on Disk and Deduplication Database

Hi there,I would like to ask you, in general, which elements are in play during the DDB verification? Is there communication between the DDB database and the disk library during the DDB verification job?In documentation, there is written that "Verification cross-verifies the unique data blocks on disk with the information contained in the DDB and the CommServe database." So, it means that there is communication between media agent and master server… The thing is, that in our case this verification job even Incremental takes a very long time. However, the performance of the disk with DDB database looks quite good.

VTL Performance Best Practice

Hi,has anyone experiences with VTL self Deduplication Backup Appliances, like Quantum DXi4800 for Example (smaller Modells ~27 TB)? The deveices are non Deduped backuptargets for commvault. Later Aux-Copy to a physical Tape-Library is performed.I got a Performance Best Practice Guide from Quantum. They said use small cartridge size 50/100 GB (like Ultrium 1) but not how many Tape Deveices in parallel and how this relates in backup and restore performance. To much Tape-Drives maybe slow down the throughput but i have no idea which throughput per drive stream is possible comparred to a physicale tape drive which normaly only receive 100-200mb/s.Would be nice if someone else use this "old"stuff and can explain something in correlation with commvault. My last VTL implementation was 10 years ago.ThanksChristoph

Restore from Commcell Migrated Tape Library

Hi, I am performing a Commcell Migration and in the source Commcell there is a TapeLibrary that we need to migrate to the target Commcell. My question is if the historical data will be available for restores (i.e tapes will be migrated/re-labled as well). And if using the option “Allow imported media to be reused on this Commcell” means that append will work once the TapeLibrary is migrated or if it is read only and tapes will be reused (moved to scratch) only once all data on them has expired. Office 365 Backup Storage Calculator

Is there a calculator (or formula) to estimate the required backup storage capacity for Office 365 Backups (Exchange Online, OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online & Teams)?For “normal” backups (File, VMs, Databases) there is such a calculator (Link), but I haven’t found anything regarding Office 365.How do others run such capacity calculations for Office 365? Scality ARTESCA as S3 Compatible Backup Storage

Looking into CommVault supported S3 Compatible Storage Vendors I can see Scality RING but not Scality ARTESCA even though both are S3 Compatible storages.Would that mean Scality ARTESCA is not validated for use as Commvault S3 compatible backup target storage?

Aux Copy with various tapes

Hi.I have a lot of jobs to copy to tapes.I´m doing it but it is taking too much time, because each copy is using one tape. There are copies with a lot of images, and I have 6 drives to use. I want to use more than one drive at same time to copy this images.Any idea?Thanks.

Hello,I want to use Commvault to backup 10 laptops.The files used are :Vidéo : .MOV, MP4, .RAW, .BRAW, AVCHD, BOO, DOO, TBL, Editing files: .FCP ou .SRT Audio : .MP3, WAVE, AACCould I use the deduplication and compression on these files? If yes then what will be the ratio? Thanks.Best Regards,Ben

DR site media agent much smaller than primary site.

Hello everyone,All my backups are set to replicate from my primary site to my DR site and all copies have the same retention. Weirdly, the Disk Library Growth report shows the media agent at my primary site has 178TB worth of data but my DR site is only 132TB so I’m wondering where the 46TB difference comes from.Question: Is there a way to compare the contents of two media agents to see where discrepancies are coming from?ThanksKen

Synth Full on Seconday Copy Storage Policy

Hi,we backup a File Server in China with Inc. On Saturday there is synth Full.The Aux Copy of the Synt Full ( 1.8 TB )( to Germany is really slow.Can i schedule the Synt Full on the secondy Storage Policy ?In China always incremental, aux copy to germany and then in germany the Synt Full.We need a full for the tape backups.RegardsPeter Rupp

Synthetic Full & Aux Copy Performance

I do several 10-20TB synthetic full jobs each week which are then aux copied off to tape on a global tape copy policy with a single stream (one LTO drive) with multiplexing enabled.I noticed that under the advanced settings on the synthetic full job the “Use Multiple Streams” option is NOT selected.What I think this means is that each 10-20TB synthetic full backup gets written to disk as a single stream which means it gets aux copied to tape as a single stream.If so am I right in thinking I want to enable this setting so the synthetic full jobs get written as multiple streams as this means they’ll get aux copied as multiple streams?I’m going to be moving the DDB to a new NVMe volume which seems a good time to review things.We’re on 11.20.73.Thanks in advance.

System Created DDB Verification schedule policy - use of streams

Hi there, is it safe to limit the number of streams to be used in parallel for System Created DDB Verification schedule policy? I am asking because in our case this verification policy consumes 30 streams out of 30 streams. However, there is set up use maximum number of streams, why is 30 limit then?Secondly, I would like to discuss Data Verification Options. Which option do you use preferably? Would it be enough to use only Verification of Deduplication Database instead of Verification of existing jobs on disk and deduplication database?

VSS DDB Backup Failures

Hey all - we are having a VSS failure for our DDB backups. Providers look fine but seems like there is some sort of issue with it.Windows Application Log error says the provider could not be started. The provider referenced is the Galaxy VSS Provider Service. It is telling us there are no associated devices.This has been working just fine and then just randomly started failing on Nov 22nd. Nothing has changed on the media agent.When running the vss creation manually - the error is VSS_E_UNEXPECTED_PROVIDER_ERRORCustomer will most likely open a ticket but wondering if anyone has any ideas?PS- we rebooted just for the heck of it...

Local MA RAID Died; taking both DDB and Index cache with it along with the data;

This is just a question about how we could have better way to rebuild MA. We have a windows based local ma and the data is aux copied to another media agent at a secondary site (different city);The RAID on the local MA was returning errors; so we replaced one of the faulty disk which caused the whole raid configuration to fail. We had to rebuild the whole virtual disk again. Unfortunately since there were only 3-6TB disks; everything OS/DDB/IndexCache/Libraries were in the same Virtual disk and we lost everything. Since we had a copy of the backup data at the secondary location; the quickest way was to rebubuild the MA. The RAID controller was not showing any error; and it was not feasible to send another MA to the site due to lockdown So we rebilt the virutal disk again; installed/upgraded OS to Windows 2019; kept the same hostname/ip configuration; installed Commvault agent and it made the MA online on Commserve. created index cache and DDB added the new mount path in the

DDB Data Verification on cloud enviroment

Hello,I’m wondering what’s the proper approach to data verification in native cloud environments. The environment is built within the cloud, CS, MA, Cloud Libs etc. are placed in the same cloud solution, so the infrastructure traffic basically stays within the cloud. The only reference that I’ve found in the docs was:Tip: By default, the data verification schedule policy that is created by the system is not configured with data mover MediaAgents that use a cloud storage product, because the read operations from the cloud are very slow and are performed on low latency media. If necessary, you can perform the data verification on the cloud storage manually.To run data verification on data that is stored on archive cloud storage, first recall the data to the main cloud storage location. Changing disk library for primary storage policy copy

Hi there, most likely we will need to temporarily change disk library for a couple of storage policies because of slow DDB database reconstruction.My question is how to change disk library for primary storage policy copy? There is no scroll down menu to change disk library in Default Destionation field Does it mean that I need to create new secondary copy and after that promote this newly created secondary copy to be the primary one? Is there any potential data loss? Do you have any hints or caveats for this task?

Error Code 13:187 Some jobs skkiped during an Aux Copy

Scenario. We´re creating an Aux Copy for all existing backup jobs from a particular storage policy, during the process we faced the following error message:Error Code: 13:187Description: Some backup jobs are skipped because they are aged on destination copy or marked do not copy.Source: commserve, Process JobManager. The Aux Copy was configured to take all existing jobs from the primery and only was able to run and move 10% of the total data on the primary copy and skiiped the rest, any idea how move the skipped jobs??
