Correct me if I’m wrong, but, the Commvault server initiates the backup of the client, correct?  Is there a client agent that can tell the Commvault server when to be backed up?

Thanks.

Correct the CommServe server handles scheduling in most cases. However, there are some automatic schedule types (like those associated with laptop clients) that can initiate themselves based on rules (% change files, interval etc). Those types are driven from the client itself.

Another possibility would be that you may not have a Commvault schedule for a client, and ask the client to initiate a backup from a command line/script (through restapi) at the moment you wish it to run, using an external scheduler, for example ($u, ControlM, Autosys, or any other)..
