Question

CommServe DR backup in CommandCenter not working

Forum|alt.badge.img+4

Hi Vaulters,

We recently installed CommServe version 11.36.6 on Linux (Rocky) and configured our libraries. However, we noticed that the CommServe DR backup is not running automatically with its default schedule (Daily at 10:00 AM). In previous versions, we were able to adjust this through the CommServe DR storage policy and its default schedule policy in the CommCell Console.

Since version 11.36 only provides access to the Command Center, we can’t check the CommServe DR storage policy or locate the default schedule. This has left us a bit stuck.

From the screenshot below, you can see there’s no option to view the schedule or the CommServe DR storage policy. Even through the CLI, we confirmed that the storage policy and schedule exist.

Any tips on correctly configuring the CS DR backup to run with its default Storage Policy and Schedule? We’d prefer to avoid creating a dedicated Plan or making additional customizations.
Regards.

I’ve found where you can view the schedule in command center.

From Dashboard -→ Click Health tile.

Then click Disaster Recovery Backup tile

Schedule location highlighted:

As far as configuration of the DR run schedule you are in the right place to make changes what time of day and # of repeats (click the enable slider).

It seems in command center they have removed the following capabilities:

  • Change the schedule pattern (one time, weekly, monthly etc),
  • Run a differential
  • Enable/disable db compression
  • Option to backup additional databases with DR (AppStudioDB,HistoryDB,DM2 etc)
  • No option for advanced job options such as ‘priority, start new media, alerting for specific jobs etc)

These are all still available within the Java Console. However, if someone does know where to find these options I would be eager to hear.

Thank you so much, @Ponte_Vedra, for the provided details. Actually, I already knew about the Health Report trick ;)

My main issue is that the schedule seems not to be triggered, there is no automatic job launched at 10:00 AM according to the default settings, even though the manual backup runs perfectly. I assume there's a problem with the schedule itself and, from Command Center, I couldn't find out whether the schedule is effectively being set for CommServeDR SP, as CommServeDR isn't visible in Command Center. I was only able to check from the CLI and confirmed that the schedule was indeed created, but nothing beyond that.

And from the logs, there's no trace of the job being triggered (JobManager.lob and CommserveDR.log)

Regards.

The schedule is set for a daily backup at 10 AM. If you do not see any reference in the job manager or log file, check the task manager log file at 10 AM to verify if the job is being executed.

As Anand mentioned, I would also start from taskmanager.log, identify the task id, and then hop to jobmanager.log and validate the job status.

The only reference that I managed to find in TaskManager is :

2763180 195   02/09 10:44:26 ### ### ControlTaskMgr - Request received for [Tag_ModifyTaskReq], userId [1], commcellId [2], sequenceNumber [1], fromUpgrade [False], endUser [False]

2763180 195   02/09 10:44:26 ### ### ControlTaskMgr - Input xml <TMMsg_ModifyTaskReq>

        <processinginstructioninfo>

                <attributes name="xmlFeature" value="" />

                <attributes name="webServerHttpRequest" value="1" />

                <locale localeId="0" />

                <formatFlags skipIdToNameConversion="1" />

                <user userName="" userId="1" />

        </processinginstructioninfo>

        <taskInfo taskOperation="5">

                <task taskType="2">

                        <taskFlags disabled="0" />

                </task>

                <subTasks subTaskOperation="5">

                        <subTask subTaskName="DR Backup Full" subTaskType="1" flags="4" operationType="4002" subTaskId="4" />

                        <pattern freq_subday_interval="0" freq_type="4" active_end_time="0" active_start_time="36000" freq_interval="1" tzId="0" freq_recurrence_factor="1" />

                </subTasks>

        </taskInfo>

</TMMsg_ModifyTaskReq>

And it's triggered at 10:44. Any clues as to what's actually happening here?
