Good afternoon.  One is a backup copy of a snapshot from a File System backup and one is a backup copy of a snapshot from an Oracle backup.

Hello

it’s clear that “File System Backup Copy” perform a backup to tape/disk at File System level while  “RMAN Backup Copy” perform a backup copy of Oracle data through RMAN…

The question is: what are the main advantages/disadvantages of use one or the other?

For example if I use a proxy client for backup copy I suppose that with “File System Backup Copy” it is not needed to have Oracle binary installed…

Federico

Hi @Federico

RMAN backup copy is a RMAN aware backup method which leverages RMAN while moving the data from the Snapshot to Tape or MagLib. In case if you use a proxy to perform the backup copy, you will need Oracle installed and a blank db configured on the proxy for the the job to mount and use rman during the backup copy job. The dba could use the recovery catalog to query and find out the backup history and details. Hope this helps.
