Dear Team,

  1. We have five data center and each DC deployed one media agent and taking backup through disk library.
  2. Out of five data center one is the main and another four are the branches.
  3. Now we are planning to deploy tape library for only secondary copy.
  4. Which is the best option to take tape backup?
  5. Taking secondary copy in the same data center. So, need to deploy tape library for each dc or will move all secondary copy to main dc in one of the disk library and then moving to tape copy.
  6. Need your support to implement the solution in Commvault.

@Ledoesp Thanks for the update. Sure, I will check for FC and SAS both options which is suitable for the current infrastructure.

FC connection information:

SAS connection information:

How about the first scenario??

Hi @Wasim,

Thanks for the update. I understood the better option to configure a DASH copy between two DC but customer request the backup without deduplication (it means that primary backup copy without dedup to disk -- Secondary copy without dedup to disk -- Third copy to tape). Is this recommended by Commvault.

ManiD

Hi @ManiD,

Considering the data center resiliency, the better option is to configure a DASH copy between two data centers this will reduce the network load between the data centers.

Then, configure the tape copy by setting the secondary disk copy as the source.

Also to deploy tape library HPE MSL3040 Scalable Base Module (upto 3 HH Drive) without SAN switch is possible or not. If possible please provide the possible options.

Note: we have two Media agent as physical server with enough free ports but there is no HBA cards.

Something to ask to HPE about how to connect the MSL3040 to a backup server, there are two options Mini-SAS or FC as per their website.
