Question

Change IP of Metallic appliance

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

IP address subnets are changing at our facilities. We have a need to change the static IP address configured in the linux Metallic appliance. What is the procedure to do so?

Hello @alanoleski

Thanks for the questions, can you please provide more details around the appliance you are referring to?

Is it Hyperscale X? Most non-standard maintenance work the support team have playbooks for and they might be better suited to answer the question under a ticket.

Kind Regards

Albert Williams

It’s a standard ESX cluster, where we backup several VMs to Metallic cloud in Azure. The linux appliance was deployed via OVA. There is no obvious way to re-IP the appliance from the GUI or from within vCenter.

Hey @alanoleski,

If its OVA deployed within the vCenter appliance, you can update the IP address of the nic at the OS level of the VM using the root credentials. You could also deploy a fresh OVA appliance with the new static IP address, add the new media agent on the existing cloud storage via here https://docs.metallic.io/metallic/associating_mediaagent_to_cloud_storage.html

Then make the change for it to be used as the new access node at the hypervisor or VM group level(level where you have configured the VMware OVA linux access nodes) and retire the existing OVA machine.

Please open a case if you need help and they will gladly assist you with the IP change or fresh deployment.
