I’m trying to backup a virtual server but I got the following error.
Error Code: [19:857]
Description: Error creating virtual machine snapshot. The operation is not allowed in the current state of the host. Snapshot creation attempt took [00:00:01]

Check readiness show no Issue.
The error in vsbkp.log:

NOTE: all other virtual server backups work fine

Hi @Mostafa Amin

Thank you for the question.

The error indicates that Commvault requesting the VMware to take a snapshot of the VM, but VMware is declining to perform the snapshot.

This could be because the VMware ESX host is in maintenance mode.

Case history here at Commvault does show some cases where the maintenance mode activity became stuck on the ESX host and this needed to be resolved in VMware before successful backups could be taken.

Please check the status of the ESX host and see if that reveals anything.

Thanks,

Stuart
