Hi TEam,

Commvault VSS services on VSA is getting stopped intermittently. We have KPI when this service goes down, the alert is getting triggered. This is causing noise. As a workaround we have to start the services CV VSS manually.

Is it expected that VSS will auto stop/start when Backups run ?

Is it possible to keep it online always ?

Can we enable automatic start of this services after reboot ? Please advise.

Hello @AbdulIkram

The Commvault VSS Provider Service starts when a backup performs a Microsoft Provider VSS snapshot and stops when the snapshot is finished.

The Commvault VSS hardware provider service starts when a backup performs a Hardware Provider VSS snapshot and stops when the snapshot is finished.

Both the Commvault VSS Provider Service and Commvault VSS hardware provider service are set to manual within the OS (under service manager) and are started and stopped when needed. You can set it to automatic as well.

Best,
