Can anyone advise on best configuration for using Isilon as back end storage for on prem Commvault. Would you use Linux or Windows Media Agents ?

Hi…

We have a few of these Isllon clusters (20+ nodes) running… providing SMB shares for Windows MAs in grids…. Works well… very stable. They’re backed by CVLT DDBs ofc and performs well during backups… but restores can be a pain depending on model being used.

As I remember sparse file support isn’t enabled by default, so you have to enable this by using the “isi smb settings share modify --sparse-file=True”  command..

thank you for your reply. Are you using 25g ports and if so what type of throughput are you getting for backups. Do you have a mixture of VM and Agent based backups. We have many many SQL servers so the throughput of these is my biggest concern.

Has anyone got any experience of using Linux Media Agents with Isilon being the target storage ?
