Index Cache filling up: Intellinsnap incremental backups without full

We have incremental backup copy jobs failing due to lack of free space during index restore; I was reviewing the Index cache and noticed F:\IndexCache\CV_SnapMetadata\2\3568\1737471697 showing over 239GB of metadata.  From what I understand this folder will have all the indexing metadata from all the Intellisnap incremental jobs; this specific job have not had a full backup(I am investigating the reason) for some time.  If I were to take new full backup what will happen during the backup copy; would it still try and restore historical incremetal index data as historical incrmental backups have not copied across or because this is a new full it will only copy the most recent backup copy.

What if I manually delete the old snapshot and just keep the most recent would that avoid incremental backup copies and just copy the full backup without restoring index and would it clean up this metadata

hello @Rajeev Mehta

Hope you're doing well.

As you mentioned, performing a full backup should resolve the issue, as it will establish a new baseline for incremental backups. Please note that the first full backup may take longer than usual, given the large amount of data that needs to be indexed.

I also recommend freeing up some space in the Index Cache directory or increasing the Index Cache size. You can find more details here:

https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/expert/index_cache_storage_forecasting_indexing_version_1_and_indexing_version_2.html

Additionally, it would be helpful to understand the root cause of the missing full backups (if you've identified it). Please feel free to share any findings or log files that might help us pinpoint the issue.

If you're using Indexing V2, for best practices, you could also consider planning for index server load balancing in the future. More information can be found here:https://documentation.commvault.com/v11/expert/running_index_server_load_balancing_with_load_balance_index_servers_workflow_indexing_version_2_commcell_console.html
