What is the best approach to backup o365 mailboxes.

  • Is it recommended to create secondary copy to Tape? as primary going to be single point of failure
  • Any recommendations for bandwidth as we will transfer over external network.

To effectively backup O365 mailboxes, consider the following strategies:

1. Backup Strategy: Implement a comprehensive backup plan that includes both primary and secondary copies to ensure data redundancy and protection against data loss.

2. Secondary Copy to Tape: Creating a secondary copy to tape can be a viable option to avoid a single point of failure. Tape backups provide an additional layer of security and can be stored offsite for disaster recovery purposes. However, managing tape backups can be labor-intensive and may require manual intervention for tasks like selective copying and retention management. For more details, refer Secondary Copies

3. Bandwidth Considerations: When transferring backups over an external network, it's important to ensure sufficient bandwidth to handle the data volume without impacting other network operations. Consider implementing bandwidth throttling or scheduling backups during off-peak hours to minimize network congestion. Additionally, using deduplication can reduce the amount of data transferred, optimizing bandwidth usage.
