Array to Array replication - DR Orchestration for Pure Storage

Forum|alt.badge.img+6

Is Commvault able to manage Vmware guest, Array to Array based replication with Pure Storage arrays?
In the documentation it looks like it can do it for NetAPP.  I would love to be able to set this up with my Pure Storage arrays.

https://documentation.commvault.com/11.21/essential/123160_array_based_replication_for_virtual_machines.html

Also in the Array management portion of the Java GUI.  For the Pure Storage array I do see some fields about target array for replication… but I can not find much about it..

Thank you,

@Farmer92 , I heard back from dev.  Whereas this is not supported at this time, they approved a CMR: 327905.  No ETA, though it was dev approved and created as a result.

I liked your company and your CCID to the form as well.

Let me know if you have any questions!

@Aplynx , that document looks close.  That feature looks like it will mirror the local snapshots to the remote array.

The real goal is to handle the Disaster Recovery of our VMware guests.  I am hoping for the ‘Easy’ button for the ‘restore’ of all the VMs on the datastores.  It would not really be restoring anything, but it would mount the datastores to the ESX hosts and regiser the VM’s on the data stores.  In the original link I sent, It looked like for the Netapp, it has the DR orchestration.

Thank you,

dude

@Farmer92 I would almost prefer to use the plugin from the storage vendor instead of Commvault to be honest.

Have you tried Pure Plugin? https://blog.purestorage.com/purely-technical/the-pure-storage-plugin-for-the-html-5-vsphere-client/

@dude ,

Have not looked into that much, as our Storage and Vmware teams are separate groups.  I thought the plugin was really to create volumes and what not from the vCenter interface.  We do not have a need for that, but if it has other functions as well. I will for sure, have to take a look a that.

By the way, great name! LoL

Thank you

Looks like only Nutanix and NetApp are listed at the moment for array-based replicating. Adding @Pavan Bedadala to see if he has anything up his sleeve!

You could dabble in software-based replication as well, especially if you are auxcopying the data already to the remote site.

@Farmer92 , @Aplynx had asked development directly about support and they replied:

Here is what is supported for pure

Array based  inline-replication in pure

https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=33963.htm

also Pure ActiveCluster using PODs (Active/Acive replication)

https://documentation.commvault.com/commvault/v11/article?p=109836.htm

Let me know if this helps!

I am aware of the replication between arrays that handles the data, but the part I am looking for is the registration in vCenter of all the VMs at the target site.

Thanks, @Farmer92 !  I replied back to dev with greater context of your goal.  I also unmarked the Best Answer as this is not what you are looking for :nerd:
