Hi

We are currently implementing Commvault in a Huawei Cloud Stack (version 8.1.1) environment to run backups for different workloads. Please advise on the Commvault requirements to ensure a working solution.

Hi @Thando

Please find the requirements listed in the below documentation:

https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/107798_openstack_system_requirements.html

Thanks,

Keshika Bisht

Hello @Thando

Thanks for your query!

You can refer to below documentation links on system requirements to configure HCS and procedure:

https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/107798_openstack_system_requirements.html

https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/87212_adding_openstack_hypervisor.html

It is recommended to deploy VSA in the same region where VMs are residing to be backed up.

Thanks,

Tanuj Balani

Thanks guys. The issue is that Commvault (when incrementally backing up a VM) takes too long & upon further investigation, 97% of the time to perform a backup is spent reading the data from VM disks. Occassionally, the backup task fails with the error “Error Code: :91:113] Description: Unable to read the disk   ] for virtual machine i ] on Host o ].”

Please assist.

@Thando

Could you please attach the vsbkp.log from the VSA server here for any recent failed job and updte me the Job ID?

Hi @Thando,

It seems like a case of slow read performance from the virtual environment.

Check out this video that covers general tips on optimizing VMware protection operations. It covers lots of detail on transport modes, stream configurations, Media Agent requirements and deduplication performance. It also covers the testvminfo tool check and diagnose performance issues.

You can view it here: How to optimize the performance of Virtual Server Agent data protection

For errors related to unable to read the disk, we will have to review the vsbkp.log to understand the root cause of the issue.

@Keshika Bisht

Attached are the logs and. Job id: 2102706

Hi @Thando ,

Unfortunately, the logs for Job ID: 2102706 are not present on the log bundle uploaded by you. But I happen to check the latest logs and it seems that the VSA server is unable to access http-resp:s404] url:rhttps://ecs.mkn-region-1.unisacloud.ac.za, as errors were reported while trying to access the disk.

Could you please check if the Nova API endpoint is reachable from the proxy?

Kindly check Nova logs at the same timestamp to get more info.
