In the documentation for setting up a Hyper-V hypervisor for backup it’s stated that the VSA need to be installed on the commserve computer, I take it thats the commcell?
Whats the purpose of it being installed there?
Can someone explain the Hyper-V configuration maybe.
I have done vmware hypervisors but no hyper-V sofar.
Appreciate all help.

Hi @Henke ,
VSA binaries are required to perform discovery of Hyper-V node or nodes in a cluster so we have documented the requirement of having VSA package installed on the CommServe.
Alternatively if CS doesn't has VSA package installed or if Hyper-V host is in DMZ network then requirement is to register atleast one of the Hyper-V node to CS with VSA package installed and then create the client by entering registered Hyper-V node name.

For Hyper-V the VSA Agent is usually loaded onto the Hyper-V Node(s) themselves.
As per Documentation: The Virtual Server Agent can be installed on one or more machines, so that those machines can serve as VSA proxies. A VSA proxy manages backup and restore operations for guest VMs in your environment, eliminating the need to install agents on guest VMs.
The Virtual Server Agent can be deployed on a standalone Hyper-V server or a node in a Hyper-V cluster. Multiple VSA proxies can provide load distribution and load balancing to improve the backup and restore performance.
