As the adage goes, every company is now a cloud company. Those of us with on-premises datacenters run what you can consider a private cloud, where you provide infrastructure, applications, and other services to your lines of business. In addition, to on-premises cloud, you may have workloads and/or data stored in the public cloud, often is several different clouds, creating hybrid or multi-cloud environments.

Organizations face a balancing act of trying to achieve greater agility for their business, continuing to innovate, and remaining efficient in this hybrid & multi-cloud world we now live in. Ever growing data sets and increased constraints on IT resources are driving the need for more cost optimization. Coupled with the need for even greater security, many organizations are tirelessly working to address the growing threat of ransomware. Protecting all their resources across their cloud environments is paramount.

We are announcing our Tech Preview for Commvault Platform Release 2023 (CPR 2023). We are introducing new data management capabilities to help support your organizations hybrid & multi-cloud strategies and help address these business challenges. We’re adding enhanced data security and protection to improve your security posture and help mitigate ransomware attacks. We’ve also included new features to help increase cost savings and operational efficiency to address data growth and IT cost optimization challenges.

We know customers hate point product complexity – that’s why we’ve continued to grow and expand our ecosystem across our intelligent data services which can be managed using Commvault Command Center.

Here are just a few of the new features coming in Platform Release 2023:

Data Management and Protection

One of the key features in Data Protection is a new integration with Azure Restore Points. We worked closely with Microsoft to be able to support this new capability in Azure. By leveraging Azure Restore Points for data protection, it reduces the risk of application corruption by ensuring application-level consistency when performing backups. It has the added benefit of reducing storage costs when doing backups.

Azure Restore Points

Additional Data Management and Protection features available in this Tech Preview release include:

  • Save up to 30% by leveraging single region snapshots with GCP. Regional snapshots help ensure data sovereignty with granular controls to determine where data can reside within a region.
  • Reduce cloud spend & automatically tier data storage for Oracle Cloud Infrastructure with integration for Oracle Cloud Infrequent Access.
  • Improved protection for Hadoop with enhancements that reduce backup scan times from hours to minutes.

Data Security

When it comes to Data Security, our industry leading capabilities continue to expand. It is not a matter of if companies will face these threats, but only a matter of when. When malware strike, how do you get back to business faster? You need to ensure you are restoring the most recent data, but it must be free of threats. Our new malware scanning capabilities can flag and remove threats from your archives, restoring only clean data. This can save hours when minutes matter most.

File Data & Threat Analysis

Additional Data Security capabilities in this release include:

  • Allow security teams access to stream alerts, audit data, and events to their native SIEM management solutions via Webhooks or streaming logs through a new simplified UI & workflow.
  • Extend full manageability of HyperScaleX Patch Management via Command Center.
  • With certifications of SEC Rule 17a(f) and FINRA 4511(c), this release offers higher level of qualification for protection of critical financial and highly regulated environment.

Data Compliance & Governance

Every release Commvault continues to set the bar higher for the value our solutions can provide. This release continues in that with great new capabilities including AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) Protection. For customers leveraging Amazon VPCs, one of the conundrums was how to ensure not only protection the workloads inside of the VPC, but the VPC itself. Our new capabilities to backup and recover VPC settings significantly reduces restore times for VPCs, and programmatically ensures VPC settings are exactly as they were. Customers can perform retrospective audits of the VPC data to look for changes over time, configuration drift and more.

AWS VPC Protection

Additional Data Compliance & Governance features include:

  • Provide highly compliant immutable backups for regulated environments with Compliance & Storage Lock by requiring Multiple Person Authorization (MPA) for administrative tasks.

Data Transformation

New enhancements supporting Data Transformation initiatives round out the last major area of enhancements for Commvault Platform Release 2023. More organizations look to move on-premises software development lifecycle management to cloud-based services. They need the same resiliency and protection for their new cloud-based data repositories, pipelines, and other DevOps related services. Our new support for Azure DevOps helps companies keep their

DevOps data secure and protected by allowing for granular backup & recovery of all of the various DevOps services.

Azure DevOps

Additional Data Transformation features include:

  • Ensure consistent data management for on-prem and cloud-based NetApp solutions with new support for Amazon FSx for NetApp.
