I have exceeded my capacity license. I ran a license summary report and identified a number of sub clients which i could disable. After disabling backup activity at the subclient level, and after running data aging these subclients were still featuring on the license capacity report.

Why are licenses not being released. In several cases i v also released license for client , and the license did not release.

Hello Dave,

The approach to releasing a license depends on the type of agent configured for the client:

  • For File System Agents:
You can disable backup activity at the subclient level and then run a Data Aging job. This should release the license associated with the client for filesystem agent.

  • For Agents like Virtual Machine, SQL Server, etc.:
In such cases, you may need to release the license at the client level.
    To do this:
Right-click on the client → All Tasks → Release License,
followed by running a Data Aging job.

If you’ve already completed these steps for a File System Agent, you can try the following:

  1. Log in to the Command Center

  2. Navigate to License Summary Report

  3. Click on the Recalculate option and check if the license status updates

If the above steps don’t resolve the issue, I recommend opening a support case with Commvault for further assistance.
