Hello Commvault Community,

I would like to ask you how to change the condition in the license consumption monitoring alert so that it indicates the current consumption according to Command Center. Some time ago I came across the information that the calculation of license consumption in CommCell Console isn’t perfect and we should monitor and suggest the information presented in License Summary Report from CommandCenter (after use Recalculate button).

Today this has been proven and confirmed - in one of the environments running on SP32 version we noticed that for many months in CommCell Console the system didn’t inform about excess use of VOI licenses, after checking this in CommandCenter it turned out that licenses have been used for a long time above 100% license consumption, where in CommCell Console the alerts gave information that the consumption is at 80-90% of available licenses.

It seems that despite many updates to the Commvault environment version, the alerts still refer to the information available in CommCell Console, rather than that in CommandCenter. In view of this, which information should Administrators honor?

Thanks in advance,

Hi @Kamil ,

I understand you are seeing a discrepancy with the License usage in the Java GUI as well as the Command Center.

Referring to the screenshot , you have captured the VOI license from the License Details section of Licensing & Registration.
Could you please check the Usage tab in Java GUI and verify the License details, this should match the LSR of your Command Center.

hello @Kamil

Could you please check the Usage tab in the CommCell Console?

I recommend adjusting the alert conditions to reflect the values obtained from Command Center License Summary Report.

Hello @Dheeraj Shetty @Mohamed Ramadan,

VOI from Usage Tab
Protected VM from Usage Tab

As you can see in the screenshots above, the license consumption is the same as in the “License Details” tab. This is the view from the recovered environment image (Staging from August 29, 2024 needed for troubleshooting another topic), the situation since then is the same, so issues of possible refresh between consoles we should rule out. Previously, it wasn’t noticed by us that CommCell Console didn’t report redundancy in the form of alerts and already the License Summary Report from CommandCenter indicates redundancy of VOI licenses.

As you can see in CommCell Console, these two licenses are counted as separate units:
- vOI
- Protected Virtual Machine

In the License Summary Report in CommandCenter, this is combined into one, which is probably why there are these differences in the display of information between the consoles.

One thing curious to me is why, if CommandCenter is seeing excess license usage, why this information isn’t pulled into the alert. Instead, license information from the CommCell Console is taken, where apparently the information isn’t always given correctly. The alert itself is identical in both consoles, but it only collects information from CommCell Console, not from Command Center.

Thanks,
Kamil
