Hello @johanningk
Thanks for the great question. Currently this is not an option in the Command Center but you should be able to find the schedule in the Java console and tick the box without issue.
Kind regards

not really an option if I start with a new installation with Commvault 2024, where the use of the JavaGU has to be temporarily enabled via incident/tickedt with the Commvault Support
The Plan will run an Incr every day, so there’s no missing protection. Is there a specific reason why there’s a need to run an Incr immediately before the Synth Full?
Thanks,
Scott

Where there is a requirement that a Full be performed on a specific day, using a pre-incremental can provide a level of assurance that the Synthetic Full is capturing the required backup data.
Synth Fulls do not protect anything; they’re essentially just jobs which close out cycles for the purposes of retention and data aging. The Incr jobs can be scheduled at specific times, which would provide for the data protection at a given time.
The ability to combine them is not in Command Center. I’m curious if there was a specific use case, or if someone was just trying to do things “the way they always have”.
Thanks,
Scott
Hello @Scott Moseman
The main Use case i see is if you are Performing a selective copy of the data to a tape or offiste copy.
By having the option to run the inc just before the full, you can be sure that the full that is being copied over in isolation is at the exact date needed.
I do think there is enough drive for this feature to be added to the CC like it is in the Java console.
I have asked the products team, waiting to hear back if it is on the road map.
Kind regards

Thanks Albert. I’m glad someone is chasing it.
Hello Team,
The Products team came back with the following:
When you create a plan ,automatic synthetic full schedule is created automatically.
It runs synthfull automatically based on retention, secondary copy requirements and space savings. We intentionally did not provide an option to edit the schedule to keep things simple and consistent.
We do not have plans to support incremental before synthetic full as of today.
As soon as eligible incremental runs, synth full triggers right after it. Automatically
Kind regards

Simple management for simple environments. Disappointing.

What is an “eligible incremental”?
Hello Nate,
Lets say your plan has a schedule to run a Syth full every week. Once it has passed that 1 week timer the job wont run immediately it will wait for the next Incremental to run and then run the Syth full directly after.
So the word “eligible” is referring to if a job completes and the Syth full is ready to go.
