Failed to get the index information from previous backup

When performing the increment backup of VMware virtual machines and this message always appear. Howto to set filters for VSA backups on backup set level in Command Center (FR36)?

During a case a question comes up. A big VSA environment with more than ten subclients. Template VMs should generally be filtered out. That is easy in Commcell Console. I set the filter on backup set level and this works for all subclients. How can I do this in Command Center? Setting all VSA filters on subclient level seems to be a step backwards in product development. I found topics in community but it does not fit for me. Thanks in Advance Joerg

Cannot find equivalent of backupset vm filters in Command Center

We’ve done a big hardware refresh and are migrating all our VMs to a new Virtual Center. Our backup environment is not changing at this time so all the storage, media agents etc are all set up and happy already. I thought I’d take the opportunity to “modernise” our backups at the same time, starting to use plans instead of storage and schedule policies and hopefully get to the point where we can largely leave the java console behind and use the Command Center. Our Commvault environment is very mature (20 years) and a lot of work has gone into keeping it in good shape over the years, through many upgrades and hardware refreshes. It works beautifully. So I am pretty old school and very familiar with the old console. Not loving plans if I’m honest, we have two on prem blocks of storage and one cloud library, and we tend to keep everything on the same retention periods. We do use a lot of different schedules so I’m finding the concept where it creates a whole new storage policy for every s

Openstack and virtual server agent proxy

I've set up a proxy by installing VSA but the Opensatck Client can't communicate with the proxy's virtaul server. Are there any other specific packages to install on the VSA or should this one be included in the configuration files?My Commvault version is 11.32.83 How can i solve this

Guest File Restore Only Showing C Drive

I seem to have multiple servers that only show the C drive when doing a guest file restore. If I mount a whole disk I can see all the others. I have other servers in the same backup Plan that work fine, have very similar servers that work fine, I can’t tell why it isn’t showing. Anyone had this? I’ve logged a ticket but not much of a response so far

Proxmox backup failed at nfs and ceph environment.

I created commserv 11.36.49 environment Proxmox VE 8.3.5 datastore are 3 types, zfs, NFS share, ceph I tried backup , zfs success, but NFS and ceph are failed document said follwoing… I don't know why it failed The Commvault software supports protection of Proxmox VE VMs with the following storage types: Directory NFS CIFS Ceph/RBD LVM-thin https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/essential/protecting_proxmox_ve_vms_with_commvault.html NFS and ceph are output same error to /var/log/commvault/Log_Files/vsbkp.log , “ Failed to open device [/dev/nbd??]” proxmox snapshot ware created, but commvault could not detected snapshot. Crazy Slow Hyper-V Snapshots

We are in the unfortunate process of migrating from VMware to Hyper-V. We are in mid migration and I am finding that the snapshots are taking longer and longer. Normally snaps are about 15 to 30 min. Now they are taking over 5 hours for a quiesced snapshot. After the snapshot is done, the Backup Copy runs quickly. During the Snapshot job, I see lots of log messages about CHyperVInfo2::RunParallelVMSnapshotTask() - No available thread found for creating software snapshot of virtual machine XXXXXXXX. I can not find any setting for the number of threads that Commvault will use to talk to Hyper-V. I have had a support call open for a bit but not felling like it is making any progress. This feels like it should be a 101 type question. Does anyone else have delays with their Hyper-V snapshots?

Cannot read disque

I'm trying to backup Virtual machines on VMware. All backups are ok except two vms. I have this error Cannot read disque [[Datastore2-Compellent] SRV-EXCHANGE/SRV-EXCHANGE-000002.vmdk] for virtual machine [SRV-EXCHANGE] on the host [esxi03.domain.local]. [Une ou plusieurs erreurs se sont produites lors du traitement de la demande. (ERROR_ERRORS_ENCOUNTERED.774) , Échec de ReadCurrVmdkFile (W32.774)] I have verified the connection between the access node and vice and the ESXIs all fine. But I noticed that commvault try to access to vmdk disk that didn't exist on the VMs. i have tow VMDK Files for two virtual disks that called “SRV-EXCHANGE/SRV-EXCHANGE-1-000028.vmdk and SRV-EXCHANGE/SRV-EXCHANGE-000004.vmdk” for this vm. Someone has a solution for this

Virtual Machine Status at 90%

11.36.52 I have had my VM backup performance drop off the cliff in the last week, trying to figure out some bits and pieces One thing I see in the ‘Backup Job Details’ is the many VMs at 90% What is the actual status at this point? They seem to be here for a long time, so any thoughts would be appreciated Thanks

Browase and restore for Vmware backups

Hello, Following our upgrade to version 11.36.46 (from 11.32), we have observed an unusual behavior during the browse and restore operations. The file systems are being randomly mounted either on the configured FRE or on one of the HSX nodes designated for server backup. Since the HSX nodes are still running on RHEL 7.9, the browse operation fails for clients that are on RHEL 8.*. We likely wouldn't have noticed this issue if the browse operation hadn't failed. Is this the expecetd way the system operates ? Thanks

RHEV access node requirements

It looks Commvault still only support RedHat 8.7 for access nodes in RHEV environment, this is a pretty old OS. Is there any time line when they want support 8.10 or 9.x for access nodes?

Force Full (or SFull) backup of VMware VM after SP/Plan change

Hi, I have a scenario where I will need to protect VMware VMs which can be located either on Datastores from Storage1 device or Storage2 device. I will have 2 plans setup for this: Plan1 will backup VMs from Storage1 datastores to a backup Pool2 Plan2 will backup VMs from Storage2 datastores to a backup Pool1 The issue is that Pool1 is tied with Storage1 and Pool2 is tied with Storage2 in the sense that if Storage1 goes down for any reason then Pool1 will be unavailable too. The same is true for Storage2 and Pool2. The other issue is that VMs can migrate between Storage1 and Storage2 For these reasons I always need to have last backup chain available on the pool that is independent of the Storage device where VM is sitting during backup. Some time ago it was a default behavior to force Full backup after changing target Storage Policy and since my Plans use different Pools/SPs, then and that would basically solve this for me. But this is not the case anymore. So my question is: is there

Config post VM Migration

Hi All, When a VM migrates from one vCenter to another Commvault creates a new backup set name for example original set name is defaultBackupSet but after migration under the VM client you get a new Backupset called defaultBackupSet_ vCenterName and a new default subclient, We’ve been disabing the subclient in the original Backupset but what is best practice for dealing with the old Backup DataSet and subclient. I hope the question makes sense,

VSA Job Results folder usage behavior sizing

Customer is on 11.32 and is having a problem with Job Results folder filling up on backups. They’re VMware Primary backup is done in the field to a local MA/access node. Backup is VM backups, mounting snapshot, backup, release snap, auxcopy later. VM in question is 8.5TB and erroring out over the weekend when no restores are being done. Synth full Saturday, Incr Sunday… error out with filled up Job Results. They’ve filled the job results folder up twice now, once at 100GB and now at 300GB, and don’t want to keep chasing this issue. Customer would like to know behavior of the job results folder usage in order to properly size remote locations for backups. When does it release space? Question for Job Results (it keeps filling up even at 300GB) - do we need space for: a. files (as explained with a massively complex formula) and VM space (2% of VM size) b. just VM space And then how can we minimize the space requirements? Re-install Windows client on commvault for backups

Good day i hope you are welli am struggling in terms of re-adding windows file system backups on commserv.the steps i took is re-installing the content store on a rebuilt server and setting up the configs for file server and point to commserv gateway. when running the final install to register, it said that it will register ;later with the gateway server due to the fact that it is in maintenance mode. i also did create the windows client on Comserv under client computers and when clicking on reconfigure, i dont think it linked properly with the content store from the rebuilt server. please help

Test failover for Auto-Recovery for VM - Live Mount only?

Hello I need to provide an isolated/test environment (with IP masquerading etc.) to perform set-of-VMs restores on regular basis (like Veeam SureBackup) For Command Center I can use Auto-Recovery feature with “Test Failover” option but as far as I can see we can only use Live Mount (https://documentation.commvault.com/11.38/essential/testing_failover_for_periodic_replication_group.html) How to perform such isolated & automated test with regular streaming restores instead of Live Mounts? Production/source VMs should remain online and untouched during the test. I am aware that I can achieve something like this with old-fashioned Virtual Lab managed by deprecated CommCell Console https://documentation.commvault.com/11.38/expert/creating_restore_as_lab_policy_for_vmware.html, but I want to follow brand new Command Center ;) Any thoughts or findings will be appreciated. ova deploy via Command Center. Choose another VSA access node than primary

FR 11.32 A FREL.ova needs to be deployed via CommandCenter. documentation: Configuring Deployment of the VMware Image in an Offline CommCell Environment Save the Access Node and MediaAgent (FREL) OVA file directly on your primary access node as defined on the Hypervisor client within its configuration tab. Does a possibility exist e.g. a key that I can deploy from another access node than the primary? I know the several other methods to deploy and we cuurently try to change the primary access node but this is not the goal. Thanks in advance Joerg

splay synthetic fulls over more days

Hi all, This question relates to v2 indexed VM backups. I’m running out of ideas and wondering what special reg keys might exist to somehow force the “auto” synth full schedules over more days than the rolling schedule based on retention). In this case we backup 3000+ VMs, most of which use a single plan but multiple VM groups/subclients to split them up by datastore. This used to work OK before moving to plans as each subclient would or could have its own schedule policy. My question is what do you guys recommend to split the synth fulls up ideally accross 7 (or 14) days given that is the retention? Basically becuase of how things were discovered, migrated, etc., there are days of the week where 1000 or more synth fulls run and many days where none run, so, that’s the issue trying to solve. I thought about derivative plans but I’d still need to futz with every one of them via console to undo the “auto” schedule and force particular days of the week. OR are some or many of you just run

Alerts for failed changed block tracking

Is there a way to either report on or configure alerts for CBT failures? Right now, the only way we can catch them is by seeing that the job is running longer than expected. Running 11.36

Questions about VSA Proxies for Nutanix AHV

Hello everyone, I have a few questions regarding the use of VSA proxies. We have a medium-sized Commvault on-premise infrastructure with around 1,000 virtual machines and 100 TB of consumed storage. We are running on Nutanix AHV, and my colleague has deployed five Linux VSA proxies and five Windows VSA proxies. However, these proxies are sized as small or even extra small in some cases. I don’t really understand the need for so many VSA proxies. Is it really useful to have that many? And is there any benefit in having Windows VSA proxies? From my understanding, Linux proxies are better integrated with Nutanix AHV, right? I also noticed that during full backups, the proxies experience a very high load average, often exceeding 8 or 9, while they only have 2 vCPUs. What do you think about this setup?Would it be better to increase the resources on the Linux VSA proxies and remove the Windows ones? Thanks in advance for your insights!
