Dear Commvault Communityi have a failed backup Job for vmware backup. here is for the error description Error Code 91:30 - Unable to open the disk(s) for Virtual Machine [VM]. Please ensure that the proxy is able to communicate with the ESX host and resolve the ESX host address. Also verify that the disks types configured to the virtual machine are supported. i`ve allready change all transport mode, from auto, san, nbd, sslnbd. but it still failed. anyone has solved this problem before? Thank you
Hi, can you please just confirm to me that if Im doing backup from azure VM and I will do a commvault restore complete virtual machines to azure but I would like to keep also the original VM:clear in place restore box set up new name for the restored VM rest can be as default after restore I will have also prod server and also the restored serverThank you!
This could be totally unrelated; however recently we upgraded our Commcell to 11.22.17 last week Thrusday; we pushed the MediaAgent and client upgrade this week on Monday; we are seeing increase VM level quiescing warning across different customers; the only change that seem to have happened is upgrade of Commvault VADP proxy; I know quiescing process is outside of Commvault; and we are asking customer to check their VMWARE environment however it is a bit wired that this issue started occuring after the change we made at the proxy
Hi,I’d like to identify ESX-VMs which are backed up by the virtual server agent AND having an active filesystem backup via agent (double backup ). Is there any report I can get this information from?Regards,Janko(using 11.23.12 right now)
If you are in de rare occasion that you implement Hitachi SAN storage in combination with a vSphere Cluster. And you want to integrate this with CommVault Intellisnap and Hitachi Raidmanager/commanddevice. You might get into troubles when you name your Datastore with a COLON ": “ . If you identify your datastore with the LDEV ID like “Datastore 04:00” CommVault does not understand this and interpret this wrong in the code. The Job fails and cannot find the CommandDevice in the MetaResource.xxxxx xxxxx xx/xx 11:26:22 ##### GetPageInfoForExtent() - Host: [server-vmesx01.vmware.local] LunUuid: [DATASTORE 04:00:020001000060060e8012bb80005040bb80000003004f PageNameSpace: [GENERIC_VPD]
Hi,I’m currently try to create Alibaba hypervisor, but somehow it failed. Error is “Add hypervisor failed. Validate VS credentials failed. Error [100:Unable to connect to Virtual Machine host [default] as user [LTAI4xxxxxxxxxxxx]. Please ensure that the proxy is able to communicate with the host and that the user account and password are correct.]”.Alibaba vendor said that they provide the correct access & secret key. I communicate the proxy from CS using public IP. Is it due to this the proxy try communicate to ECS using public IP hence it failed? Is there any log in commvault that I can check whether it is due to communication or credential?regards,Fauzi
A couple of our VM clients have failed to delete the snapshot and has locked the snapshot fileQuestion:What Commvault service is responsible for locking the snapshot file on the VM client ?In the past we have just rebooted the VM to delete the Commvault snapshotThe virtual machine reports that it has virtual disks that need consolidation and this could not be performed automatically. In order to prevent a further buildup of delta disks and possible stability issues with the virtual machine, further backups of this virtual machine will not be performed until this condition is corrected. Please check if there are any locks on the virtual disks or if the disks are still attached to a backup proxy. Virtual disk file [[] /-000001.vmdk] is attached to virtual machine []
Over the past weekend, we had a VM FULL backup job failed because of failure with vCentre authentication. After changing to a new username and restarting the VMware vSphere Web Client service, the job ran successfully, as well as all the incremental VM backup jobs since. However, what’s annoying me is that, with the same (new) username and password, in the Virtual Server Instance Properties, I still got “Connection refused” message So, I don’t quiet understand how come the backup job was fixed whereas the vCentre authentication is still not working ? Thanks, Kelvin
I have a Dell PE R740xd that we are going to use as a replacement Media Agent server. This Media Agent server will be used for our VMware backups. I have two mirrored drives for the OS, Two mirrored drives for the Index Cache and two mirrored drives for the Deduplication Database. I have 8, 4TB drives that will make up my disk pool. What is the best way to configure these 8 drives to get the best read\write performance? We are running Windows Server 2019.
Hi,i’m searching the documentation in the latest Feature release and i can’t see any informations about implementing backup for VM’s in a management domain and workload domain with vmware cloud foundation. i’m surprised because commvault curently cover a lot a virtualization products.any information for future implementation ?kind regards, christophe
All,I am currently implementing Hyper-V 2012 with Intellisnap for CommVault V11 with Netapp array. There isn't much information/best practices on how it could be done. I have done a bit of research andcame up with ODX on Hyper-V 2012. Apparently it causes a lot of headaches. Also there are also instances where AVHDX files are not removed after a backup is doneI would like to ask:1. Is it worth disabling ODX feature to ensure stability for Intellisnap backup or should I leave it enabled2. Are there any hotfixes which needs to be applied to the Hyper-V 2012 server to ensure that it works and stable3. Do I need to install the Data Ontap VSS provider or will the Commvault hardware VSS provider be sufficient?4. What are the ways to avoid having those remnant AVHDX files even after the backup completes5. Any additional settings within CommVault to implement to ensure that the CommVault Hyper-V intellisnap backup works?6. Will be using crash consistent backup option for Intellisnap, sh
Is there a known documented process to migrate Commcell’s to a dedicated private metric server? Currently the metrics server sits on a CS and the Comcell env is growing rapidly.I was tasked with creating a plan of action and any help or insight would be greatly appreciated!
Hello all,the topic at hand is well discussed here in parts.Other that discussed there, we have a slightly different situation. Here, VMs which consume socket licenses from old / non-existing Hypervisor hosts are decomissioned as well. Hence a Full / Synth Full, which would release the license, is not possible. So deleting the jobs would be the only way? For yearly backups of those VMs this is not an option. What would be the best way resolve this? Would creating a new subclient and moving the VM to that be a good way? Any other ideas? All help is appreciated.Thanks.
Hi team,Anybody knows if File-Level granular recovery is supported for RedHat version 8.3 Guest VMs?Where can we get this information? In my case, it is a Nutanix AHV Virtual Server Agent.Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated :)Thanks
Hi Experts,Can we exclude a specific OS drive from VM backup. Please assist me.
We have a multi-tenant environment running on vSphere 7, backing up to Commvault 11.21 with VSA. Some of the tenant networks have no DNS service. Some of them have no domain, only Windows workgroups. Some of the tenant VMs without DNS require agent backups.I know we can work around this with host file entries on the client, and substituting client IP addresses for client FQDN on the CommServe. We want a more permanent solution that allows us to migrate the CommServe and MediaAgents without needing to update host files. If I deploy a Commvault Network Proxy Appliance to each tenant network, what hostnames and IP addresses will still need to be resolved? Does the client then only need to forward- and reverse-lookup the network proxy?
Hi all, Does anyone have any inside info as to whether AHV version 5.20 will be supported any time soon? Our customer really needs to upgrade to take advantage of the new Nutanix features. Thanks in anticipation.
My openstack based public cloud instance backups which I am trying to configure for the first time, keeps on failing with error : To back up an OpenStack instance, select a Virtual Server Agent proxy that is running as an instance in the OpenStack environment. I have even tried using a seperate VSA instance deployed on my tenant but error still remains. What could be the issue.
Hi,We need to secure the communication between the commserve components and our vcenters. SSL will no longer be used in our vmware vsphere platform. We must use TLS 1.2 minimum. We use some Network topology but only those created at the commserve livesync activation.if i need to create a secure communication between Commserve and Vcenter what option should i use to be sure using TLS ?kind regards, christophe

We added 2 Windows 2003 VM’s yesterday to a VM subclient, which have not attempted to backup even though they are present and on the backup schedule.Question: do I need to do an additional step to get my Windows 2003 VM’s to backup in Commvault version 11 .22.13
Hi,I Can't backup some vmware subclientsGetting this error message: Error Code: [91:139]Description: Unable to connect to virtual machine host [10.11.25.110] as user [Administrator@Vsphere.local]. Hi, I’m actually setting up this feature at customer sites, It’s working fine for now, but I have a question regarding enabling this feature on a subclient with hundreds of VMs ?Is there a way to limit the number of concurrent VMs, to do X amount VMs concurrently until there are done ? To limit resource usage on the ESX Hosts. I tried the option Use source VM ESX to mount or to use a Recovery target option to limit the number of VMs to X but ?
I’m running 11.22.19 and have our CS and MA in UK on local time zone (GMT/BST) and a VSA proxy VM in New York on its local time zone (EST). Our backup plan’s schedules have “client time zone” set. However, the New York VM backups are starting at the same time as the UK, not what I’m expecting. The VSA proxy also has a file system backup configured and that runs at the expected local time.Which part of the chain is dictating the time zone for the proxy client? There is, on the properties sheet, an override time zone option which shows “time zone: not available”. I will try setting this to the New York time zone, however the time zone should really be picked up from the VSA proxy and this setting used to override that if required.
