Hi All, When a VM migrates from one vCenter to another Commvault creates a new backup set name for example original set name is defaultBackupSet but after migration under the VM client you get a new Backupset called defaultBackupSet_ vCenterName and a new default subclient, We’ve been disabing the subclient in the original Backupset but what is best practice for dealing with the old Backup DataSet and subclient. I hope the question makes sense,

Hi,

The recommendation once the original VMWare instance no longer requires backups is to disable backup activity at the client level. From the Commcell Console this can be done from the properties window for the VMWare client. Go to Activity Control and disable backup activity.

The same can be done from the Hypervisor in Command Center, you can disable “Data Backup”.

This allows you to recover existing data while it may still be needed but no backups will run.
