Issues with AppAware SQL Server Backups after update to 11.36.28

Hi, We upgraded our Commcell from 11.34 to 11.36.28. Since then, our AppAware SQL Server backups are having issues. *Edited after further troubleshooting* The AppAware Backup Copy job for SQL Servers is not working anymore since the upgrade. https://documentation.commvault.com/2024e/essential/backup_copy_support_for_application_aware_backups.html

VMware protection and Transparent Snapshot

Hi, Some time ago Dell introduced support for Transparent Snapshots in their offerings which according to their materials should boost VMware VMs protection and restore. As far as I know Dell is the only vendor using this, so I am not sure whether this is a VMware technology or is it a third-party in this case. Anyhow, I wanted to ask if there is a similar solution on the road ahead that is/will be available in Commvault?

Restore Virtual Access Node

Hi All, Is there any way I can restore full virtual machine to a virtual access node if it is only access node in particular VMware environment. Because all Commvault services on this access node don’t start up after upgrading its software version to 11.32.69. Thank you.

unable to see all Azure VM from Hypervisor

Hello everyone I’m working on CVLT backup infrastructure to protect Azure VM. From Azure Hypervisor I’m not able to see all the VM just a subset. Speaking with customer Azure team seems that all the parameters are correctly configured (from azure side). What i can check ? Thansk for help ! Gianluca

Commvault VSS services on VSA

Hi TEam, Commvault VSS services on VSA is getting stopped intermittently.We have KPI when this service goes down, the alert is getting triggered. This is causing noise.As a workaround we have to start the services CV VSS manually. Is it expected that VSS will auto stop/start when Backups run ? Is it possible to keep it online always ? Can we enable automatic start of this services after reboot ? Please advise.

Continuous Replication - Specify Source Node?

We need a method to specify source nodes for replication groups. We keep having issues where the source node changes to a VM that does not have access to the datastore/cluster that the replicated VM lives on. We’ve been asking for this functionality for a few years now and we’re at a point where we need a workaround or find go find a different solution. Does anyone else have this issue and can help put pressure on this request? Anyone have a workaround?

Issues restoring a Linux VM from one Azure region to another

Hello Commvault Community We had backed up two very important firewall devices (Linux) which sits in Australia East and the media agent that is holding the backup sits in Western Europe. The job gets so far then bombs out with error 91:145. I’ve logged a call with support but was wondering if anyone had come across such issues before. Many thanks TonyQ

Nutanix AHV vTPM Backup

Hey Guys, I have a question.My customer has several Windows 11 VMs on his Nutanix. The problem is we cannot backup them. I have already read here in the forum that you should simply remove the vTPM. But this is not possible for this customer. Does anyone have this case? Surely it must be possible to back up the VMs anyway?

Update custom attributes when intellisnap backup completes

Hi, we have a VM attribute setup in Vcenter for the VM and this attribute last backup is modified with the date and time when the intellisnap snapshot is removed. The attributes are backup status and last backup. We would like to add another attribute in to record the date and time the intellisnap snapshot is created. I assume we would have to setup the attribute in VI first or can we get Commvault to do this? Thanks

Backup VMware VMs without disks

Hello, we tried to backup VMs created without disks, the VMs are booting with PXE. The backup was not successful. I do not have any further details at the moment, but is it possible to backup these VMs? Thank you. Regards,Thomas

How to delete month and year backups

Friends, We have a change of retention for the backup data of a set of VM backups: we don’t need the month and year backups anymore. The retention was never changed within our Plans, but we only stopped to make the monthly and yearly backups, so it’s not changing the aging process, because the existing month and yearly backups will stay with their current duration. Now we want to delete these monthly and yearly backups, but I can’t find a how... We prefer to do this via Rest-API calls if possible, as we speak about a lot of VM…. Can anyone help us with this? VMware Full VM Restore from multiple disks in parallel

Hello, I have a question. When backing up a VMware VM via SAN, it performs backup of all its disks in parallel, which gives us optimal performance, reaching a speed that exceeds 1TB/hr. The problem comes in the restore since the speed decreases at rates between 200 and 300 GB/hr. We see in the logs that each disk of the VM is restored one by one. Is there a key that can solve this problem.

Cannot attach more than 5 disks to the proxy server in oVirt virtual machine backup

Hi, We get an error when backing up vm with more than 5 disks in OVirt. Error; Error Code: [91:271] Description: Unable to attach disks for virtual machine [<vm_name>] to the proxy. []Source: <proxy>, Process: vsbkp VM has 14 disks. I attached log file. Virtual machine’s disk type is virtio-scsi and proxy machine disk type is virtio-scsi too. Commvault v11.20.27 oVirt 4.3.6 Proxy server OS RHEL 7.7 Virtual Machine OS RHEL 7.7 How can i solve this error? Any limitation here?

VMWare Live Recovery using NetApp SnapMirror/Vault destination with SnapLock enabled

Hi, Is VMWare Live Recovery supported from a NetApp SnapMirror/Vault destination that has SnapLock enabled. That is, is it possible to point the Live Recovery source copy to a SnapMirror/Vault copy? I am assuming that it “should” be possible as the data is presented via the MA back to the ESX host, and am looking for confirmation of this. Cheers Jon

Synthetic Full with V2 indexing VM Backups

Hi Guys! I have a Schedule Policy for Virtual Server backups, what containes two incremental backups during the day (4:00, 14:30) and a Synthetic Full backup at the evening (18:00). Before Synthetic Full, "Run Incremental Backup" configured in the policy.When the old V1 indexing VM backups was run, there were Incremental backups at 4:00, 14:30, 18:00 and Synthetic Full after the last Incremental. After V2 indexing VM subclient migration, the same Schedule Policy runs differently. There are the two configured Incremental and the Synthetic Full, but no Incremental before Synthetic Full. Why is it happens? Incremental can't run before Synthetic Full with V2 indexing as configured in the Schedule Policy? Thanks in advance.

Cannot create snapshot of Azure VM with Premium SSD V2 disks

If I add a “Premium SSD V2” disk to an existing Azure VM (or during creation of a new VM), backup fails with error message “Unable to create a virtual machine snapshot of [CL3]. [One or more errors occured]. Please check the virtual machine snapshot tree”. networkaccessAccessPolicy is “AllowAll”, publickNetworkAccess is “Enabled”. There is no problem with “Premimum SSD” disks. First I’d like to ask, if this type of disk is generally supported by Commvault backup. I can send a full log of the backup job. Commvault V2023E. Intellisnap backup copies process flow

As I understand the Intellisnap backup copy process: we have virtual proxy will mount the SS (storage snapshot) to ESX host (proxy ESX host) from the backup that had run will it register a temp vm if the proxy vm resides on the same proxy esx host; it will use hot-add wherein it will attach the vmdk on the storage snapshot in step a and read the data via the guest OS and push it to MediaAgent on the appropirate guest vm network however if the proxy VM is on a diffrent esx host; it will use nbd to copy the data and send data to MediaAgent My question is if say that proxy is engaged in backup copying more than 1 vms which are on different datastores and someone runs the same Intellisnap backup a. will the intellisnap backup fail as there is a proxy VM which has disks across 2 different datastores.

Azure VM Snapshot (Non IntelliSnap Backups)

Hello Everyone , In Azure We are taking daily incremental backups of Azure VM. Retention - 15 Days 1 Cycle We observed that Snapshots of all the VM are getting retained. When next job starts it deletes the snapshot and the latest snapshot is retained till the next backup. We are not using Intellisnap at all. Ideally as per process snapshot should get deleted after the backups: https://documentation.commvault.com/2022e/expert/31324_backup_process.html This is not happening resulting in increased cloud cost. Please advise.

Kubernetes - App-Consistent Backups using cvtasks

Hello, I'm currently working on K8s application-consistent backups through cvtasks. MongoDB is not mentioned in the documentation or on GitHub at AppConsistency/examples. https://documentation.commvault.com/2023e/essential/application_consistent_backups_for_kubernetes_using_cvtasks.html Is this just a limitation of the CVK8SDiscoverDB.sh script and can a cvtask for a MongoDB be created manually using command, ScriptText or LocalScript or can a MongoDB only be protected app-consistent using a pre/post scripts? Archive nutanix VM

vsa installed on mediaagent does not show in access node

Hi, We have installed VSA on physical mediaagent for SAN based backup.We have provided the access node on advanced options of subclient.Backups completed with SAN transport mode. While performing full VM restore, in the access node list it does not show physical VSA(aka MediaAgents).It shows all other VSA in the environment. We have all prerequisites installed like mono packages etc. We are in 11.32.59 and physical MA are redhat 9.x machines.Please advise.

error - Failed to install File System Core Package on azure stack hci Node

I have an HCI cluster 23h2 that I want to add for VM protection, but I'm unable to add the cluster in Commvault. The error message reads: 'Failed to install the File System Core Package. The credentials entered may not have permission to use WMI on the remote machine. Please check WMI configuration and user credentials.'Source: cv-hci, Process: DistributeSoftware I verified credentials all is right.

VMware File Recovery Enabler for Linux question

Hi All, Is it possible to configure a VMware Access Node (deployed using the Open Virtual Appliance (OVA) template supplied by Commvault) as a Kubernetes Access Node? Is it possible to use it alternatively as a VMware Access Node and as a Kubernetes Access Node? I note that OVA “Access Node and MediaAgent 2024E” provides Oracle Linux Server release 9.4: 5.15.0-208.159.3.el9uek.x86_64. And that system requirements for Kubernetes Access Node require Oracle Linux 8.6, but I imagine this is a minimum value required… Thanks in advance for any explanation! Regards, Luc

Hyper-V servers all appearing as media agents

Hi there, we’ve taken over an environment we did not install, and the client’s Hyper-V servers all appear to have the media agent role installed, and appear under the list of media agents, with disk libraries having mount points prepended with “IP” in front of the drive path. I’ve never seen this before - and we don’t use Hyper-V in our other environments. My guess is that they deployed the media agent in error. Can someone running Hyper-V perhaps confirm for me please?
