Hi all,

One of our customers is backing up a Red Hat OpenShift environment with Commvault. Using CV 11.40.xx

I have some employees of this company in my training, and one of the guys asked me whether it is possible to restore a cluster to a DR site with a different cluster ID. They are having trouble with the Cluster ID, that's what I understood. SInce I have no experience at all with Open Shift, can anybody shine a light onn this?

Thanks and kind regards,

Henk

@Henk22

We do support out-of-place restore of Kubernetes applications (Pods, Deployments, StatefulSets, etc.).
However, if the customer wants to restore the entire cluster to a DR site, that is not supported

I’ll forward this to the customer, with the question of what exactly they want to restore and what issue they have with that.

@rohit

This might be more clear - please see attached picture:

         Please take a look at the screenshot provided. How can we remove the metadata that is specific to each instance? Restoring with this information is only feasible using the same instance. However, for disaster recovery restoration, it will indeed be a different instance. Therefore, please assist us in excluding the specific metadata that has been highlighted in this screenshot.

They can use resource modifiers to add, delete, and modify fields in the Kubernetes resource YAMLs that you restore. Resource modifiers are useful when you need to modify the restore content to match the destination environment.

@rohit Thanks again! I’ll forward it to the customer. As I have very little knowledge about this matter, could I possibly let the customer contact you directly? If yes, could you give me your mail address?

Please ask them to escalate the issue to support if they face any issue during restore modifier..
