Question

Re-install Windows client on commvault for backups

Forum|alt.badge.img+1

Good day
i hope you are well
i am struggling in terms of re-adding windows file system backups on commserv.
the steps i took is re-installing the content store on a rebuilt server and setting up the configs for file server and point to commserv gateway. when running the final install to register, it said that it will register ;later with the gateway server due to the fact that it is in maintenance mode. i also did create the windows client on Comserv under client computers and when clicking on reconfigure, i dont think it linked properly with the content store from the rebuilt server.

please help

Hi Nissan,

It sounds as though there was an issue registering the agent.
Can you go to the log file directory and check cvd.log and cvfwd.log for connection attempts to your Commserve? This should provide an error that will help narrow down the cause of the problem.

i checked both log files and it mentions the following -

XXXXX:JobControlCVD] ERROR: Client connection failed on (client server): No direct tunnel to XXXX on cvfwd

what are the basic steps of adding a server or workstation to get backed up becuase i am getting so confused. i have the CVMedia but i dont know if i should be adding a pc under the client computers on the console and install the launchinstaller or what exactly

The method for install depends on your environmental needs. In an environment where there are no network limitations you can just install the package on the client and it can register automatically.

In an environment where the client cannot initiate communication to the Commserve you’d want to install the agent package and select to register later, then create a client in and allow it to register from the Commserve.

It appears as though there may be a network blockage on the port specified. I would recommend raising a support incident so this can be reviewed thoroughly and a process can be identified for your environment.
