Howto to set filters for VSA backups on backup set level in Command Center (FR36)?

During a case a question comes up. A big VSA environment with more than ten subclients. Template VMs should generally be filtered out.

That is easy in Commcell Console. I set the filter on backup set level and this works for all subclients.

How can I do this in Command Center?

Setting all VSA filters on subclient level seems to be a step backwards in product development. I found topics in community but it does not fit for me.

Thanks in Advance

In Command Center, filters are applied at the VM group level (which is essentially what subclients are). So if you want to exclude template VMs, you'll need to set up the filters separately for each VM group. That means there's currently no way to apply one global filter that applies to all VM groups in a backup set—unlike in the Console.

This isn't ideal, it is a limitation as of now. If this is something you'd like to see improved, you’re absolutely welcome to raise a support case. We can have it reviewed further with the development team and potentially request a feature enhancement for future releases.

Hi sbhatia,
this is a step backwards, compared to what has been available with JavaGUI support in the past.

Instead of simplifying the configuration it is potentially getting complexer, since all of the VM Groups are required to be populated with filter / exclusions.

In case I want to add a VM or VM Pattern to the filter, I now have to do this for all existing VM Groups.
More effort to keep this consistent (over time).

I already accepted, that backupsets are gone in CommandCenter and I have to create multiple vCenter clients to address, what has been addressed using different backupsets in the past.

But its hard for me to accept the missing option of virtualization client wide filter definitions.

For new deployments starting with 2024E, the JavaGUI has already been removed (at least for general use)

Hello Sbhatia,

Thanks for fast reply. In my case this was an update to FR36. We (customer and I) were happy that we still can use Commcell console. We were able to solve our issue without support case. Means I will not create a case or/and a CMR. Once Commcell Console is not more available support cases will come for sure.

Since there have been several posts on this topic, I think the issue is known to the development team. Personally, I find it disappointing that such basic functions have still not been implemented in the Command Center after such a long time (lifetime of Command Center).

Nevertheless, I would like to thank you for confirming this.

Kind regards

Joerg
