Hi Community,

We are designing a Commvault software (on-prem) solution, version 11.44, for a customer with 5 locations:

Site File Server Data
HO (CommServe + MediaAgent) 2 TiB
Remote Site 1 10 TiB
Remote Site 2 6 TiB
Remote Site 3 1 TiB
Remote Site 4 1 TiB
Total 20 TiB

Setup:

  • Single CommServe at HO, with a local MediaAgent and Disk Library at each site.
  • File System Agent backup only (Windows file servers).
  • All remote sites are connected to HO over site-to-site VPN.
  • License: 20 TB capacity-based Backup & Recovery license applied on the HO CommServe.

Questions:

  1. Will one capacity license on the HO CommServe cover the file servers and MediaAgents at all 4 remote sites, since they're all registered to the same CommCell?
  2. Is usage calculated as the total FET of all clients across sites, with no separate per-site license needed?
  3. Since the source data is 20 TiB and Commvault counts 1 TB as 1024⁴ bytes, will a 20 TB license be fully used from day one? What happens if usage goes slightly over?

Yes your license will cover all sites part of the CommCell and it is not related with the locations.

You will have problems when usage of license is reaching 110% capacity
