Greetings from Commvault, Hope your doing good.
Regarding your Question on Adding roles on Media agent.
Here Roles means your mentioning the packages to add on the existing MA ( if your mentioning the package adding then follow the given steps.
Open CommCell console -- Client computer → locate the MA name ( client name XXXXXX ) -→
Right click -→ All Taks -→ Add/Remove software -→ install software.
Now a install wizard will popup
Click next → click override software cache → The below windows will have an option to choose the package.

Hello
By Roles what do you mean? Do you mean have it run as an Index server/Access Node or other operation as well as MA? If that's the case you can as long as the required software is present.
Just be mindful of the hardware requirements of each operation and that you are specking the server appropriately

+1I have the same question : we have two MediaAgent who have the same packages installed, but not the same roles…. (we’re trying ton install a new FRE, but not from the OVA, from a new server linux and i followed the procedure
bue the new server doesn’t appear as a FRE in my vmware client, the only difference is about the role: le current FRE has to more roles than the future new one :” Index Media Agent” and “Virtual Server Acess Node”, but the packaged installed are the one of the procedure and the same for both...
