If I need a policy like this:

Full Backup - once a month (first Sunday at 02.00) retention 30 days

Diff - every day (at 02.00 except first Sunday) retention 5 days

Now I set 30 days as storage policy default for Full backups, and in schedule policies for Diff backups in Media - Job Retention I set 5 days. But I still see the content of diff backups older than 5 days. How and where can I set the above policy correctly?

Another question is how to set the deletion policy by the number of backup points. That is, I need one backup. When creating a new one, delete the old one without reference to days.

hello @Leixim

Regarding your first question, Commvault support or partners should have an Excel sheet called "Retention Days Cycles" that allows you to input the retention period in days, the cycle, and the days between full backups. It will then automatically calculate which data is prunable (eligible for physical deletion). Unfortunately, I am not in the office right now, but once I return, I will be happy to share it with you.

For your second question, to set pruning based only on backup points, you can set the retention policy in the storage policy to "0" days. This will bypass the daily retention and allow new data to always be pruned based on the backup point. The backup point will be considered aged and pruned once it meets the retention policy, but it will not be pruned by cycles until that point is reached.
