What am I losing by lowering datastore free space threshold?

I backup my VMs in sub clients and once and I while I will get a failure due to “insufficient free space available to create snapshot”. Sometimes I try to move things around on a datastore or try to do an extension but the storage team does not always appreciate it. I found I can just lower the threshold in the sub client and the next backup works fine.  Am I losing anything by doing this or making anything less sufficient? It is much easier for me to fix it on my side than debate with another team but is this health in the long run?

Protection of your datastore - the longer a snapshot exists on a VM, the larger it grows. The setting is to protect you from running out of space on the datastore - although 10% may be too much for some folks so they lower it.

But thats it!
