Hi @Ajal

For Azure Backup Gateways specifically, only Windows operating systems are supported. The documentation for Azure Backup Gateways lists the following supported Windows versions:

  • Windows Server 2025
  • Windows Server 2022
  • Windows Server 2019
  • Windows Server 2016

https://documentation.commvault.com/11.42/software/system_requirements_for_azure_backup_gateways.html?view=saas

There is no mention of Linux support for Azure Backup Gateways. The documentation does not list any Linux distributions as supported operating systems for this role.

For on-premises backup gateways, Linux (Oracle Enterprise Linux 9.4, bundled in VMware OVA) is supported in addition to Windows.

For the MediaAgent role, both Windows and a wide range of Linux distributions are supported. This is a broader support matrix compared to the Azure Backup Gateway.

  • Azure Backup Gateway: Only Windows is supported.
  • On-Premises Backup Gateway: Windows and Linux (Oracle Enterprise Linux 9.4) are supported.
  • MediaAgent: Windows and many Linux distributions are supported.

If you need to protect Azure workloads using a backup gateway, you must use a supported Windows operating system for the gateway.

Regards,

Kalaivanan.
