Data Retention for Deleted Users in Metallic O365 Backup

Hi Team,

We are currently using Metallic for Microsoft 365 with 100 licensed users.

Recently, 10 users left the organization. We have:

  • Deleted those users from Exchange Online

  • Released their licenses from Metallic

  • Reassigned the licenses to new users

We would like to confirm how long the backup data of the deleted (former) users will be retained in Metallic after license release.

Kindly confirm the retention period applicable in this scenario.

Hi.  The retention of deleted data (mailboxes no longer backed up) is set in the M365 plan associated to the user.  This is explained here: https://support.commvault.com/Article/Details/80820

You can see the retention settings in the plan:

 

The retention only starts once the data no longer exists in the source.
