A Metallic software update is now available for your Windows systems. We recommend you perform this upgrade before Sep 9, 2023, when Metallic will automatically update the software.

A onetime system reboot is required to complete the upgrade of Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64) – 14.36.32532 which is included in the Metallic software update.

Hi Lalit - the update will be pushed to everyone, but until September 9 you have the option to do so yourself. In this case, the gateway used to protect the VMware environment will get the update and need a reboot. The DB agent may not need a reboot, but if it has visual C++ it may prompt for a reboot.

Hi Michael,

Can you advise the software update version that will be updated to?

Also, what’s the actual issue this update is addressing?

Why are Commvault recommending this update exactly?

Also, also are media agents also referred as backup gateway?

Where in Command center I can find the name of backup gateway of my Metallic environment?

Thanks and regards,

Namu Deshpande

Hi Namu - answers as follows:

  • Your software version after the upgrade will 3201.9 or above.
  • Upgrades are seamless. Some windows systems will receive a newer version of Visual C++ i.e., if Visual C++ 2015-2022 Redistributable (x64) – 14.36.32532 is not already installed. These systems will need a reboot to complete the upgrade.
  • Media agents are backup gateways.
    • Backup gateways play the role of Media Agents and Access nodes. Refer to the documentation on backup gateway functions.
  • If you are relying on Metallic for storage, you will not see the backup gateways.
    • To determine if you have a backup gateway installed, you can go to Advanced Settings from the hub -> Manage -> infrastructure -> MediaAgents. This will show you what you have installed.
    • Backup Gateways are only used for protecting your on-prem, AWS and OCI environments. Azure workloads are protected using Metallic hosted infrastructure unless there are exceptions.

Thank You,

Namu, there is no direct issue this update is resolving - as a SaaS Provider, we're ensuring that all distributed, locally installed software is fully up to date for the latest enhanced feature and security support.

Thank You,
