Is it possible to remain the same auto-number generated on Salesforce?

Hi community,

Recently we started using Metallic as our backup solution for our Salesforce. There is a field in Salesforce generated automatically as an external ID. I wonder if there is any possibility to remain the same external ID when doing the restore. I tried the record restore and it seems Salesforce generated a new ID.

Thanks.

Good Day @John Tsang,

I understand, you have an External ID which you would like to see if possible to restore without getting it updated with ID information.

We would need more information here on what Field we are referring from SFDC side, which can help us with more information to check on the same.

Cheers,
Arvind

@John Tsang, I believe you are referring the “autonumber” field based on the heading which I missed on my last update 🙂

If that’s the field you are referring, unfortunately as of today we don’t have an way to suppress auto-generation at restore time.

Hope this helps with the information let me know if any questions!

Thanks Arvind. Is there any plan in the future for this feature? It would be really helpful if Metallic can do that.

Yes, that’s possible per the discussion I had internally.

If you could make an support case for it, I can make an future enhancement request for Engineering to see for the feasibility to work on it.

Thank you, @John Tsang
I got the Request raised and reverted with the details over the email 🙂

As a workaround for now, you can change the type of field from AutoNumber to text before the restore, run the restore and revert the field back to AutoNumber.

Feel free to let us know if any questions!
