A Teams backup fails with the following error message:

"Failed to populate hosted content for conversation item"

Any idea what that means or how to fix it?

The backup of Teams posts is failing because the posts include hosted content.

To fix the issue publish the Microsoft app that you used to back up the posts on Teams.

To request access to the protected API in Microsoft Graph, go to the Request access to protected APIs in Microsoft Graph form, and update the required app information.

Wait till you receive the email of form approval by Microsoft.

Add the iTeamsUseProtectedAPIs additional setting and set its value to 1, as shown in the following table. For instructions about adding additional settings from the Command Center, see Adding a Setting for a CommCell Entity.

Property Value

Name iTeamsUseProtectedAPIs

Category iDataAgent

Type Integer

Value 1

To run backup for a specific client only, create the additional setting client1_iTeamsUseProtectedAPIs, and set its value to 1.

Using a user account that is not a member of the team, run the backup job again.
