we are new to O365 and metallic saas and would like to know more about it.

what is the expected RPO for metallic for O365 exchange workload?

and what are your actual RPO observed in your environments/tenants?

thank you!

It depends on the amount of data and the type of restore, and whether it's a single e-mail, a single mailbox or an entire environment. What's stopping you from testing?

hi Lukas3D, spot on! we did our assignment actually, and we wanted to compare the results with the community.

  1. single mailbox has RPO 1 day.
  2. entire environment with 1200 mailboxes has RPO 1 day.

how about you or any of your clients? we have seen on command console that it is supposed to be RPO is 8 hours so we are confused if there is anything wrong with our setup.

Sorry for confusion, RPO not RTO.

Under Manage > Plans > you should be able to find a plan named CompanyName-Metallic-o365-Storage-Region. There you can see the actual RPO/backup frequency.

Accordingly, to my knowledge, all “new” workloads will be covered by 8-hour RPO by default. Plans created earlier would be set to 24-hour RPO, since that was previous default setting.

You may query the support to adjust the RPO settings at plan level to 8-hours, they should easily agree.

this is exactly where we see that RPO is 8 hours as you rightly mentioned. “Under Manage > Plans > you should be able to find a plan named CompanyName-Metallic-o365-Storage-Region. “

hence, we were expecting something like 3 times a day job but in our actual job history it is only once daily.

we have raised it with our partner and support, and it seems we are the first ones to question this discrepancy with defined RPO and real experienced RPO.

so we wanted to get the feedback and comments from other clients and experts in the community.

are we just hallucinating or the concern is valid. 😅

In our case it looks good, three times a day.

Job history:

Backup job summary report:

If your results are different it might be something specific to given “ring” (share backup environment).

good for you. appreciate your inputs.

i am curious to know the experience of others. let’s see.

below is a sample for us:
a. single mailbox (single app with one mailbox for testing purpose)

b. rest of our environment (another app with 1000+ mailboxes)

Hi All,

In my case, for M365 protection we have the same confusion with a customer. We have no control over when backups are triggered (the schedule cannot be customized), and we don't know whether the RPO is 8 or 24 hours.

Additionally, the customer is considering purchasing Commvault SaaS to protect Entra ID, but the documentation on this is unclear, it only states the following:

Does anyone know to what extent the RPO can be customized in a Plan for Entra ID?

hi jfrejo,

entra id has 24h RPO (once per day).

this is preconfigured and same with our observation during a trial.

however, it is not customizable.

hope this helps,
