Unstable SaaS platform after weekly or biweekly updates

Hello,

we are using Metallic from quite some time, but for the past few weeks, we have observed that after weekly patches, the backup system breaks down. In most cases, we are unable to perform backup and recovery tasks on Saturday and half of Sunday. Not to mention a set of minor and major glitches that, for example, cause backup jobs to be skipped without any notification for no reason because of a broken backup schedule. Thus, if one doesn’t monitor the backup jobs carefully, one will not even be aware that such a problem exists. During downtime, reporting is also broken in most cases.

 

Recently due to constant issues it’s difficult to be regulatory compliant using the Metallic SaaS/BaaS platform. What’s even more important, currently we cannot rely on backup system which by design should be our last line of defense. 

 

Where can we expect Metallic platform to be more reliable, stable and quality oriented?

Hello Michael,

thank you for the answer. Getting insight into a problem is one thing. Entire ring is affected by these updates quite frequently, are we the only customer reaching the Metallic?

The problem has been resolved with the help of those in charge from Commvault/Metallic. From four weeks platform is very stable and we haven’t experienced any similar or after patching downtimes. Thank you for sorting this out.

No Lukas, You are not the only reaching out to them. even we are very frustrated due to instability in Metallic Environment.

They broke reporting with patches 3 months back.

every weeks patching badly affects the job window. It seems like they Don’t have any HA in place.

They Move options/buttons with every patch update and jobs details do not show much data and does not makes sense anymore.

IMHO , It seems like we adopted the product at a very very early stage.

Hi,

most probably you are right, however our ring is very stable for the last 1 month.

 

As for the missing or moved features yes, that’s a bit annoying, but in general the scope is rather minor, at least for our backup scope.

 

By broken reporting you mean backup job summary report or something else? 

 

My initial perception was similar, that our ring is a test ring. But this is a Commvault way, kind of, “we are patching so bugs may happen”… ;) Recently it’s better, at least in backup environment stability part.
