ASM Disk backup supported for Oracle VM backup ?

Dear Vaulters,

 

I was tasked to backup oracle VMs and i some VMs have ASM disk, I need to know if it is supported to backup these ASM disks because these disks have critical data that need to be protected.

However, please be careful about a few important points

ASM disks (disk-groups under Oracle ASM) are not regular file-system disks, so ensure the ASM instance is configured

If you are using a proxy for “RMAN backup copy”, both the ASM and RDBMS instances must be configured on the proxy machine, and the ASM data must be backed using RMAN because “ASM data is not available on the file system
