For an on-premises deployment, you can create a hypervisor configuration using the vCenter or a standalone ESX host. For a destination site that is a VMware Cloud on AWS deployment, you can only use the VMware vCenter as the destination hypervisor.

as per the above statement , i can configure source and destination hypervisor as standalone esxi ,

does it work ? am getting stuck where the detination option vm storage policy stuck on loading

Hi Ajal,

Typically host only deployments aren’t overly common, it is recommended to deploy VMware instances using vCenter to get be able to leverage all the features of the VMware cluster. It’s worth noting that VM Storage Policies are a vCenter specific feature. It cannot populate a storage policy directly on an ESXi host, if Commvault requests a storage policy from a host the host won’t be able to provide a valid response.

You can read more about storage policies in VMware here: https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/vmware-cis/vsphere/vsphere/9-0/vsphere-storage/storage-policy-based-management-in-vsphere.html
