Auxiliary Copy - Copyback to original Storagepool

Good Day,

we recently migrated a bunch of Backupjobs from primary Copy to Secondary-Copy (Tape) and deleted the jobs in the primary Copy.
Due to a demand from the project, we need the copied backup jobs back in the primary pool.

Unfortunately I am not able to select the storagepool in a thirdcopy in the storagepolicy → create new copy.
Is there a way to migrate the jobs back?

Best regards

You’d have to promote the secondary copy as the primary so the order changes

(1) Secondary-Copy (Tape)

(2) Primary Copy

And then view jobs from the primary copy level and pick jobs to copy. This isn't ideal as any new jobs coming to the storage policy will write to tape, but this is the only way I think you can do it now.

Your problem is that Commvault only allows you to use a Storage Pool once in a Storage Policy.

Solution: Create a new Storage Pool, using the same library and make this your new copy location. This will have a separate DDB, and so your storage footprint will grow.

If you wish to consolidate this third copy with your primary (this will save disk space)

  1. Promote the new interim copy to Primary and set the old primary to be its secondary
  2. Run an Auxcopy job to bring both copies in synch with each other. Ensure that your retention times have been changed on your primary copy so when you copy jobs back they do not age off.
  3. When the Auxcopy has finished, set the original copy back to Primary.
  4. Set the primary to copy to tape.
  5. Delete the interim copy
