Hi Everyone,

i am trying to understand when a backup copy job run what exactly it is doing  and if it slow down the network. My Snap copy for VM are slow they finish between one and three minutes but backup copy job are taking hours like 1 to 4 hours. i thought NETAPP take the snap first as NetApp reach out to the client get the snap and save it with itself than CV reach out to NetApp for the that snap to make a backup copy.

When CV asked for backup copy from NetApp does NetApp reach out to the client again to grab the data?

etwork in my inviorment

HI @Naveed Noori ,

You can check these two links:

Hello @Naveed Noori

Simply, the Snapshot backup is a hardware snapshot stored on the Filer. The Filer takes a snapshot at our request and keeps it until we send API calls to have it deleted (based on various criteria).

The backup copy is when Commvault turns the snapshot into a “normal” backup. Backing up the data from the Filer’s snapshot and turning it into a “normal” Commvault backup which needs to stream the data. Snapshots are generally fast and backup copies can take some time depending on the amount of data being backed up, Filer performance, network performance, and MediaAgent performance.

Thank you,
Collin
