There very well may be an issue with Snapdiff v1 and v2 being deprecated.  If that is the case,  a Netapp KB discusses that  this is expected.:

https://kb.netapp.com/Advice_and_Troubleshooting/Data_Protection_and_Security/SnapDiff/FAQ%3A_SnapDiff_Support_in_ONTAP Also,

SnapDiff V3 is supported in 11.25 and higher. https://documentation.commvault.com/11.26/essential/141925_snapshot_management.html

I would recommend updating to 11.25 if possible to see if this resolves the issue.

Hi @abdel

NetAPP changed the rules on how companies can move data from an array using SnapDiff v3.

Commvault can do the snaps no problem. We can manage the snaps lifecycle. This is all staying within the Array or Arrays with SnapDiff v3.

We, like all backup companies, cannot move the data off the array into other storage for long term retention or AuxCopy. Even in 11.25 and higher. NetAPP imposed this restriction across the board, even telling their field organization that SnapDiff v2 isn’t available any longer and was coded out.

They were sort of correct. There is a convoluted way of getting SnapDiff v2 enabled on the newer software versions so that we can move the data out of the array. This involves your CVLT sales team, your NetAPP sales team and lawyers from both of those companies. If interested, you should contact your CVLT sales team and let them work with you on getting this going.

Long and short - by default, you can do snaps with SnapDiff v3, but can’t make a secondary/AuxCopy of the data.
