Backup servers 11.28 or 11.32 in 11.40 platform release

Hello Community ! 

 

I have environment 11.40.72 that I want to upgrade to 11.44(because of EWS deprecation) ,

can I backup servers 2019 or 2012R2 or 2016 or 2008R2 that have agent of 11.32 or 11.28 , in 11.44 version?

PFB details on Agent and supported OS for 11.44.

  • Windows Server 2019 and 2016:
    These are fully supported for agent installation and backup operations in Commvault 11.44.

  • Windows Server 2012 R2:

    • New installations and upgrades of core Commvault components (CommServe, MediaAgent, Web Console, etc.) on Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 are not supported in 11.44.
    • However, existing deployments of agents on Windows Server 2012/2012 R2 can continue to function, but support is discontinued. You should plan to upgrade the OS soon to maintain supportability.
       

  • Windows Server 2008 R2:

    • CommServe, MediaAgent, Web Console, etc.: Not supported for new installations or upgrades in 11.44.
    • Windows Client package: Still supported on Windows 2008 R2 client, but support for existing deployments is discontinued.
       

 Agent Version Compatibility with 11.44 CommServe

  • Commvault 11.32 and 11.28 agents:

    • CommServe 11.44 is compatible with agents running 11.32 and 11.28.
    • However, it is strongly recommended to upgrade all agents to a supported feature release before upgrading the CommServe to 11.44, especially for clients running 11.24 or earlier, as these are not compatible and will block the upgrade.
    • Agents on 11.28 and 11.32 will continue to function, but you will not receive new features or fixes for those agents, and support may be limited.
       

    "Commvault Version 11 clients running Feature Release 11.24 or earlier are not compatible (System Requirements) with CommServe servers running Long-Term Support Release 11.40 or later. To prevent compatibility and communication issues, upgrade all clients running 11.24 or earlier to a supported feature release before 

  • Best Practice:
    Upgrade your agents to the same version as the CommServe (11.44) for full support and compatibility.

Recommendations

  • Upgrade all agents to 11.44 where possible for best support.
  • Plan to migrate any remaining Windows 2012 R2 or 2008 R2 servers to newer OS versions, as support is discontinued.
  • Do not attempt to upgrade or newly install core Commvault components on Windows 2012 R2 or 2008 R2.
